Haines City is located in Escambia County, Florida, and has a population of over 20,000. The town was founded in 1879 by John Haines and his family. The city grew rapidly during the early 1900s due to its location on the Gulf of Mexico and its easy access to fishing and hunting opportunities. In 1907, Haines City became the first municipality in Escambia County. In 1932, Haines City annexed the neighboring communities of Live Oak and Key West.
