Haines City is a town in Monroe County, Florida, United States. The population was 2,611 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Tallahassee-Jacksonville Metropolitan Statistical Area. The town was founded in 1892 by John Haines and his family as a small farming community on the Pee Dee River. In 1905, Haines City became an incorporated municipality with a population of 350. In 1933 it merged with neighboring towns to form the new city of Tallahassee. The merger was controversial because it removed all Butte Creek residents from Haines City's municipal rolls and gave them to Tallahassee. In 2000, Haines City merged with neighboring towns to form the new city of Panama City Beach which had a population of 2,422 as of 2010. According to the United States Census Bureau, the town has a total area of , all land.

The first permanent settlement in what is now Haines City was established by John Pritchard and his family in 1837 on a tract of land that he purchased from the Seminole Nation. The town began as a tiny outpost on the edge of an agricultural area and only became known for its whisky production after Prohibition ended in 1933. The distillery closed in 1986 but its spirit remains popular among fans ofbourbon drinks around the world. In recent years, however, other attractions have come to prominence including AOPA Aviation Museum and Haines City International Raceway which offer motorsports experiences varying from NASCAR events to Formula One races. Today, Haines City is home to many businesses and organizations that contribute to its unique culture including: American Honda Motor Company (AHP), Citrus County Library System (CCLS), Florida Business Council (FBC), Muscogee County Sheriff's Office (MCSO), Knights Templar Chapter #2454 (KC 2454), First Baptist Church (Church of God) and Stonington Park Golf & Country Club which offers golf tournaments and country clubs for members.
Haines City, Florida was founded in 1879 by J.P. Haines and became a town in 1907. The city was named for General James Haines who fought in the Mexican-American War and later served as the U.S. Commissioner of Indian Affairs. In 1916, Haines City became the first community to ever be built on the site of Fort Myers Beach which is now part of Miami Beach
