Haines City, Florida is a town located in Monroe County,Florida. The population was 4,521 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Tampa-St Petersburg-Clearwater metropolitan area. Haines City is bordered by Pinellas County to the north, Hillsborough County to the east, and Sarasota County to the south. The town was founded on November 10, 1868 by Andrew Haines and his brother James Haines as a new village in what would become Monroe County. In 1875, Andrew's son Charles Haines donated land for a municipal seat which would be named after him. On July 1st of that year, Haines City became a township under Monroe Township law #4). On January 1st of 1971 - just two years after it had been established as an unincorporated community - it became a city by ordinance number 592-71 A1). The first mayor was John Soper with Assistant Mayor Marvin Jansen serving as acting mayor until February 24th when both men resigned due to health reasons. The first councilmember was Wanda Currie with assistant councillor Floyd Moody serving as council president until May 16th when he resigned also due to health reasons. On December 3rd of that year - less than one month after becoming an incorporated city -Currie died suddenly from a heart attack at her home while out dining with friends and family; she was 61 years old and had served on the city council since its inception. In 1982 – less than five years after becoming an incorporated city –Hains City annexed neighboring Clearwater Beach through annexation act 2/8/82 (no vote taken within municipality) & effective date 12/2/82 (the community of Clearwater Beach had been abandoned for decades prior & only remained habitable thanks to donations from citizens & businesses). At its incorporation day – November 10th of that year –Hains City boasted a population of just over 100 residents (& it would only grow more modestly over time) but by 1990 it’s population reached 950 residents (& would continue increasing steadily throughout most of its history). During much of its early history there were few facilities available for people who wanted or needed them due to lack of money or space; however during later years this has changed slightly but overall trends have been towards growth & development in many ways including: expanding education opportunities such as through UF&M’s College Park Campus setting up shop in downtown; creating new parks such as Olga Park which features beach access & playgrounds for children; redevelopment / construction of several high-rise buildings across from downtown providing housing options for those who desired it; major renovations / additions including: St Johns Cathedral built in 1962 featuring stately architecture inside along with extensive outdoor seating areas overlooking downtown square etc.; renovation efforts launched into reaction to September 11th 2001 terrorist attacks resulting in the construction additional office space within downtown square etc.). Today there are well over 2200 residents living within city limits (& growing rapidly), making Hainees City one of Floridas most populous communities

Haines City, Florida is a city in Polk County, Florida, United States. The population was 6,865 at the 2010 census. It was founded by Captain John Haines and his family in 1837 as a landing on the St. Johns River. The first post office was established in Haines City in 1840. In 1865, it became the capital of Florida and remained so until 1971 when its seat moved to Tallahassee. The town of Haines City was founded by Captain John Haines on December 10, 1837 as a landing on the St. Johns River for white pioneers seeking to establish new settlements along the river corridor between Tampa Bay and Jacksonville (then known as West Floridas). As part of Treaty of Moultrie Creek (1843), President James K. Polk awarded captain Hainerd's land grant of 640 acres (2 km²) to Major George Cushing for settlement by white men only within limits set forth on that map which were later encircled by what are now Polk County boundaries including present-day downtown Haines City. The first post office called "Haine's Landing" opened in 1840; it closed around 1848 because letters couldn't be sent there due to heavy flooding caused by overflowing rivers following heavy rains during wintertime. A second post office called "New Hope" opened March 1st 1850 but closed after one day because no mail could be delivered due to high water levels from nearby Lake Okeechobee and ditches built across the riverbed leading into it from Palm Beach County! In 1865, with much growth associated with military posts stationed along both sides of the state line during Reconstruction - notably Fort Brooke near Jacksonville and Fort Union near Gainesville - Captain John Haines' community became Tallahassee when that capital was relocated from Mobile, Alabama after Confederate General Robert E Lee surrendered at Appomattox Court House on April 9th 1865 following Ulyssess S Grant's victorious march through Georgia and Tennessee to end American Civil War
Haines City, Florida was founded in 1887 by United States citizens H. G. Haines and Wm. J. Hardesty as a town on the Stonington River in what is now Monroe County. The name came from the hilly landscape around it and the suffix -city to indicate that it was not part of Fort Walton Beach, which had been founded nearby in 1836. In 1925, Haines City became an incorporated city under the state of Florida with a population of about 30,000 people who were mostly farmers and fishermen. In 1958, Haines City residents voted to annex portions of Monroe County so that their city could have more services available for its residents including fire protection and police service. The annexation was approved by Miami-Dade County officials and the town's population increased to over 60,000 people by 1978 when it annexed adjacent unincorporated territory from Martin County. That year, Haines City also became a member of townsite association for Boca Raton and Palm Coast counties which helps provide mutual assistance between cities during times of earthquakes or other emergencies. In 2003, Hurricane Wilma caused extensive damage to both Haines City and its surrounding communities – including widespread flooding – leaving many homes without power or water for weeks after landfall. The city experienced another major disaster in 2007 when severe thunderstorms swept through the area causing some roofs to cave in and burying several businesses beneath feet of water; however, no injuries were reported as a result of either storm event
