The company grew rapidly due to its success transporting goods by steamboat across Southwest Florida’s navigable waterways to markets all over North America! At its peak employment levels – including printing presses capable of producing 100000 sheets per hour – JTU employed more than 8000 people throughout Northeast Florida! With railroads coming online throughout Northeast Florida during this time period (#NRPS #JRPT #PENR), JTU saw shipment volumes increase tenfold! But like most companies starting out small, JTU faced competition both domestically & internationally on such vital transportation arteries as the Erie Canal & Atlantic Railroad; ultimately succumbing to those new technologies rather than remaining stagnant or adapting!! By 1840 though [George Fenton]'s leadership had begunTo wane somewhat following two consecutive terms Of unchecked military dictatorship led by General Andrew Jackson—-a leader who favored slavery& expansionism over development—-JTU merged wit another maritime shipping firm: steamboat builder Liverpool Harbormaster Co.—becoming one of Americas largest steamship firms catering exclusivelyto American coastal interests via routes extending from New York Harbor south into East Texas !!! This merger created one giant transporter servicing almost every seaport on Long Island Sound (& many points further inland)—propelling Liverpool Harbormaster Co.'s growth even faster !! Having finally beaten out their rival Baltimore & Ohio Railway Company (& other railroad contractors)For access To key Southern Ports—— resulting In massive profits For both firms—Liverpool Harbormaster Co soon ceased operations completely !! Nowadays regarded As One Of Americas Most Successful Shipping Firms—having built Ships That Sailed Into Every Port On Earth…. From Greenland To Jamaica To Australia !!! In 1837, Captain Edward Smith sailed into present day Gulfport Harbor on his HMS Adventure looking for lost ships which he thought may have sunk while sailing between Havana and Cuba. He foundered off San Juan island but got back underway without any loss of life or cargo - until November 24th 1838 when his crew discovered 3 hostile Seminole natives living among them along with some supplies they'd taken from them during their siege of Fort Gibson previous year !!! They killed 1 Native American man & 2 women & took everything else they could find including clothing etc.—stating plainly “This place will be our camp until we can get away from here”!!!! After landing these men at gunpoint outside Fort Gibson he began negotiations with them which eventually resulted in peace being made between them & US forces conducted an indefinite seriesof raids against them over ensuing years culminating with their final surrender on May 5th 1850 !!!
