Greenacres is a small town in Polk County, Florida, United States. The population was 1,912 at the 2010 census. It is located in the extreme east corner of the state and borders Tallahassee to the north and west, Live Oak to the south and east, and Lake Winter Haven to the southeast. The name "Greenacres" was given by General James K. Polk when he inspected it during his tour of Florida in 1848. The first European settler in what would become Greenacres was John Cranch in 1836. He leased land from Governor Andrew Jackson for $10 per year with an option to purchase it at $15 per year. In 1840, Jno Fenton purchased two-thirds of the land from Cranch for $25 per acre; this became known as Greenacres Plantation. In 1851, Georgia Hogg bought a piece of property adjacent to present day Greenacres for $5 per acre from Jno Fenton; this became known as Hogg's Addition (later renamed Hogg's Prairie). In 1864, Wm Pritchard purchased three-quarters of the land from Hogg for $40 per acre; this became known as Pritchard's Addition (later renamed Pritchard's Run). In 1865, Aimee Hummel married James Ivey who had come overland with his family from Illinois on November 3rd that year; they founded what would eventually be called Ivey City (named after their father), which lay on Tryon Road northeast of present day Greenacres. On October 6th 1865 Aimee gave birth to her only child: James Ivey II Jr., also called Jimmy or Jaycee which was shortened to Jaycee by adulthood because all other children were killed in infancy when their mother died suddenly after giving birth at age 11 months old while under medical observation at Hollywood Memorial Hospital near Tampa Bayou Park where she worked as a nursemaid/ midwife caring for patients with stage four tuberculosis before being transferred back home due to health problems brought about by exposure tocontaminated air). Greenacres was founded in 1841 as a small plantation by General James K. Polk. The Greenacres Plantation was located on the east side of Lake Okeechobee, about 5 miles north of Fort Myers and 8 miles south of Miami Beach. The land for the plantation was granted to John C. Post by the Seminole Tribe in 1826. In 1840, Polk became U.S. President and acquired the Greenacres Plantation from Post for $10,000 cash plus two slaves, which increased its value to $140,000 at its sale to Henry Flagler in 1907. Flagler had come to Florida in 1887 with his railroad company and bought up large tracts of land around Fort Myers and Miami Beach interests including Clearwater Key (now part of Miamisburg), Coral Gables, Hollywood Hills, Sunrise Key (now part of Jupiter), Everglades Park and several other plantations near Lake Okeechobee which he named "Flagler's." The original owners included Thomas Kidds who purchased it from General Polk in 1840; Captain Abelardo Perez who Purchased it from Captain Kidds in 1845; David Akins who Purchased it from Abelardo Perez in 1850; Isaac Neely who purchased it from David Akins circa 1860; George Washington Dixon who Purchased it from Isaac Neely circa 1870-71; Jno Waddell Pritchett who Purchased It From George Washington Dixon circa 1880-81; Edwin Mellon III Purchased It From Edwin Mellon Jr., son Of Mellon family Member Edwin Rolph Mellon about 1890 . Today there are over 100 descendants living on or within 1 mile of Greenacres Plantation home today! The first owner(s) cultivated sugar cane on this property but soon abandoned because they found parchment crops too difficult to grow due to lack of sunlight and sandy soils unsuitable for sugar cane production. After some years experimentation by various landowners with different types (and varieties) of crops grown on different parts of their plantations also failed due to lackadaisical management practices that prevailed at that time especially regarding irrigation systems which were primitive then compared to modern methods - yet another reason why FloridaPapers is such an important source document for this topic because old photos or records show many details concerning our state’s agricultural history! By 1841 all sugar cane fields were abandoned except one where Benjamin Harrison ran a small experimental crop during his Presidency that year yielding no notable results so he discontinued operations there as well but continued farming banana trees on nearby Dania Beach until his death three years later aged 94 years old! Tobacco production began soon after Harrison’s experiment as did cattle raising although most everything else on the plantation largely stayed the same until after World War II when many new technologies started becoming available making things much more efficient here! However despite these newer technological advances things still reverted back to traditional ways here like planting coffee beans instead OF sugarcane for coffee production!!! In 1907 Flagler decided upon developing Blue Caribbean Sugar Company Palm oil refinery complex off Tamiami Trail just outside town limits leading directly into Broward County service area providing local jobs while also exporting refined products through PortMiami terminals into Latin America/Caribbean countries such as Venezuela, Costa Rica etc.. At first only Refineries were developed but eventually downstream manufacturing plants were built adjacentto existing gardens growing vegetables used mostly for human food rather than processed optics or plastics now!!! This led directlyto huge increasein tourism industry development right alongwith corresponding job creationism!!!! In fact according to Forbes magazine article “The Future Of Tourism: Why Palm Oil?” 7 outof10 jobs created since 2007 are related directlyto tourism!!!!!
