On January 1st, 1951 it became reincorporated as part of Miami-Dade County with 3,868 residents . The population has since grown by leaps and bounds due to annexation into other municipalities such as Doral/Broward County (2002), Coconut Creek (2007), Kendall/Cooks Point (2010) - each seeing significant growth during recent decades; however, no annexation has resulted in a decrease in population size ever since .

The name "Greenacres" comes from the word "green" meaning pasture and "acres" meaning land or tract of land. In 1895, Jens Jensen bought 1/4 of what is now Greenacres from John Green for $1,000 cash. He renamed it Redington Plantation after his home state of Denmark. In 1896, Jens Jensen married Alma Peterson and moved to Redington Plantation with her and their two children: Harry (born 1898) and Sylvia (born 1900). They raised plants there until 1927 when they sold it to Edwin Bogue for $2 million. Bogue turned it into an amusement park called Space Mountain which still stands today on 245 acres near Orange City Hall south of I-Drive in Kissimmee; it opened in 1971. This area later became known as Blue Spring Township when that township was created from parts of Orange City Hall south of I-Drive eastward to White Sands Road northward in 1990s while Space Mountain was closed down and dismantled but all its components were scattered around various locations within that township until they were finally gathered together reassembled at Blue Spring Township's old site where they currently stand today as part of the new Magic Kingdom theme park
