Greenacres is a small town located in Polk County, Florida, United States. The population was 1,391 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Tampa-St Petersburg-Clearwater metropolitan area. Greenacres is known for its distinctive hickory trees and golf courses. The first Europeans to visit Greenacres were Spanish missionaries in 1565. In 1836, Isaac Wheeler purchased land in what is now Greenacres from the Seminole Tribe. He named his new tract of land "New Hope." Wheeler built a home on his property and welcomed settlers into his community during the 1840s. In 1851, John Gadsden sold 384 acres (158 km2) of land to Jno Loyd Wright for $5,000. Wright developed this land into what is today Greenacres Golf Course and Country Club. The first post office was established in Greenacres in 1865 by James Sutherfield Brownell. GreenacRES was originally called "New Hope" after Isaac Wheeler's purchase which made it one of the earliest settlements in Polk County In 1836 by Iaacoquinco Ledbetter it changed name to "Greenacre" when conveyed to him by Major General Stroud who owned much of that territory at that time

Greenacres is a small town in Escambia County, Florida, United States. The population was 3,534 at the 2000 census. It is part of the Pensacola–Ferry Pass–Grace Metropolitan Statistical Area. The area now known as Greenacres was first settled by African Americans in the early 1800s. In 1881, Jno. A. Thomas built a sawmill on the Stonington River about east of today's Greenacres village and named it after his plantation, "Green Acres". By 1896, over 50 black families had relocated to Greenacres from nearby Pensacola. In 1907, John Witherspoon donated land for a Methodist church and school in what is now Greenacres Village; both structures were completed in 1909. The Rev Dr Troup served as pastor of First Baptist Church until his death in 1928. After Rev Dr Troup's death, the congregation purchased land adjacent to their church property and organized themselves into two churches: One Presbyterian and one Methodist (later denominational). They also developed a small cotton gin on that site which still stands today. The post office at Greenacre began operating on November 1, 1898 under name "Pensacola". On February 14th 1929 another post office opened with name "Escambia County" due to people in that area not wanting to be annexed into Jacksonville or Tallahassee counties. As time passed Escambia County acquired more territory making it difficult to keep track of which post office was where; however on December 15th 1957 all three offices amalgamated under name "Greenacre Post Office" effective January 1st 1958 This continued until May 15th 1989 when it merged withmail facility located just east of present day town limits forming new Escambia County Postal District #8 . At this time Old Fort Walton Beach became the only incorporated municipality within county boundaries...
