A number of major events have taken place at Greenacres over the years: The first World War I Centennial Celebration in 1926; Stonewall Jackson Day Celebrations in 1969; Hurricane Andrew's landfall in 1992; Christmas Tree Lighting Ceremony held annually at First Baptist Church on December 25th; Caribbean Carnival held every year since 1984 by members of Miami Beach Chamber of Commerce; Hispanicfest celebrated annually since 2007 by South Floridian chapter of American Indian Movement Inc.; LGBT pride parade which takes place each year on Saturday morning before dismissal from school for " Parade On The Prairie ".
