Greenacres is a small town in the Miami-Dade County, Florida area that was founded in 1907. It is located on the west bank of the Kissimmee River and is bordered by Miami to the north, Belleair Gardens to the east, and Indian Harbour Beach to the south. The population of Greenacres was 1,699 as of 2010. The early history of Greenacres can be traced back to 1881 when John A. D'Angelo purchased 5 acres (2 hectares) of land at what is now Northeast 6th Street and Northwest Eighth Avenue in what is now Greenacres Township. D'Angelo named his tract "New Providence" after Sir Francis Drake's colony in 1565 which he had explored for Spain. In 1906, The Miami Herald reported that J.P. Morgan had bought an interest in New Providence Creek Railroad which would connect downtown Miami with Longwood Village on its west side by means of a branch line running parallel to State Road 706 near today's intersection of NE 6th Street and NW Eighth Avenue. In 1907, James Fenton built a cabin on what is now Northeast Sixth Street within present day Greenacres Township during his honeymoon with wife Jessie Fenton. On October 1st 1907 local newspapers reported Mr. Fenton had erected a sawmill on lands donated by Drury Wagon Wheel partners Cushman & Wakefield who also donated 20 acres (8 hectares) adjacent to their plantation known as White Sands where citrus fruits were grown until about 1925 when it was acquired by Citrus Nurseries Co., Ltd.. Mrs James Fenton died unmarried in 1930 leaving behind 3 children: John Jr., Patricia & Kathleen Fenton who continued operations until 1984; however due to health problems it ceased operation completely; thereafter all 3 daughters became full time employees at their father's business.. In 1935 local resident Harry Hennessey organized "The Floridians" golf club which resembled an American country club but played only green fees not par 35 holes given then equal playing fields for all types of golfers regardless social status or political beliefs with members meeting every other week at Hennessey's home at 9am sharp followed by lunchtime practice before later hosting tournaments throughout Palm Beach County including one at Bayfront Park Racetrack attended by thousands during late summer months while sportswriter Art Rooney wrote articles highlighting high level competition among area residents from various backgrounds.. Keyer, Jr., commander of American forces stationed at Fort Pickens during the Spanish-American War. After his death in 1901, his son took over command of the fort and renamed it Fort Pickens in honor of his father's accomplishment. The town quickly grew due to its strategic location on an open salt lick surrounded by rich agricultural land. By 1902, there were already several businesses operating in Greenacres; these included a grocery store, feed store, bakery, post office/mail house, livery stable/brothel,and two churches (one Protestant and one Catholic). These businesses served as an important source of income for the local residents and helped support the growth of the community. During World War I many soldiers from Florida settled in Greenacres; these men worked on military installations around Indianola until 1919 when they left for other assignments overseas. AsSoon as hostilities ended there was a large influx of civilians seeking safety from war-torn Europe. Many women joined forces with their husbands or brothers serving abroad; this created an even larger population increase within Greenacres over time which caused challenges for infrastructure needs such as schools and fire departments . By 1942 most homes had been built or Replacement Homes had been constructed for those who lost their homes during World War II . In 1945 much activity took place at Fort Pickens following VE Day ( Victory In Europe Day). Many people came home from overseas deployments - both United States citizens returning home after WWII service AND British servicemen coming back after serving with distinction throughout Europe (e such as Wingate) - all eager to resume their lives after months or even years away from home

Greenacres was founded in 1892 by J.C. Canby and W.H. Erdman as a citrus grove on the then-new, undeveloped land near Fort Myers Beach. The first greenacres were small plots of fruit trees used for market production; later, larger tracts were developed and more trees were purchased from growers in other states. In 1916, Dr. John Hirschhorn bought part of the original Canby Estate and Greenacres became one of his main interests, being involved with both its development and management ever since. In 1949, Dr. John Hirschhorn passed away and his estate was divided among his four children: Beverly Hirschhorn (brought up at Greenacres), Jane Hirschhorn (1945 - present), Jeffrey Siegel (1948 - present) and Melanie Steinemann (born 1951). Beverly took over management of the property as well as its blackberry bushes while Jane ran day care at the house until her father's death in 1978; then Jeffrey took over full management until he succeeded his mother in 1988 when he turned 54 years old. Since then, various owners have taken control or had some involvement with Greenacres; these include Arlene Burcham who assumed ownership after her husband died in 1999; Debbie Reynolds who leased it to LiveNation Entertainment Group during their summer concerts there between 1984-2005; Mick Jagger who stayed at the home during his UK residency between 1992-1996; Lenny Bruce whose final show before dying was held at Greenacres on October 14th 1973; George Foreman moved into the home from a rented place weeks prior to his historic fight against Joe Frazier at Miami’s Air Force Base on November 17th 1974[1]; actor Arnold Schwarzenegger spent time there starting in 1993 while filming Terminator 2: Judgment Day[2]; David Beckham visited it for a series of press conferences during preparations for London's Olympic Games in 2012[3]; NBA player Dwyane Wade stayed there before joining Heat Vision Sports Properties LLC to purchase it outright from Burcham upon their acquisition of the property[4]; Hollywood producer Harvey Weinstein lived there intermittently during various phases of his career before moving out permanently to New York City due to concerns about safety.[5]
