The second factory was built in 1932 and became known as the Winchester/Remington Plant. It produced shotguns and rifles until 1987 when it merged with Browning to form Browning-H&R Arms Company.
Greenacres is a small town in the state of Florida, United States. The population was 1,711 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Jacksonville metropolitan area. The name "Greenacres" comes from Indian word "Gurumukh", meaning "place where there is plenty of fruit". The first settler in what became Greenacres was John Denton in 1835. He built a cabin on a tract of land that he and his wife, Elizabeth Smith Denton, bought from the Seminole Indians. They named their farm Greenacres after their home country: England. In 1869, Captain Alexander Hamilton Gray sold 4 acres (1 km²) of land to Rufus Ewing for $5 per acre. This land eventually became known as East Greenacres because it was east of Uptown Jacksonville on Farm Road 524A. When the railroad arrived in the late 1800s and began serving Jacksonville, Gray's land became one of its first purchases and development around Railroad Station Square ceased until 1959 when it reopened as an shopping center with two new buildings designed by entrepreneurial architect Philip Johnson. During World War II, Black Forest Cake Factory produced many items for use by servicemen including cake frosting and other products used by military hospitals across America such as boxed macaroni salad or ham paks (boxes filled with hard-boiled eggs). Greenacres is a small, rural town located in Escambia County, Florida. The population was 576 at the 2010 census. Greenacres is part of the Pensacola–Ft. Walton Beach–Boca Raton Metropolitan Statistical Area. The first European to visit Greenacres was Captain John D'Urville on October 10, 1795 when he and his squadron of six boats explore the area for bays and shipping routes near Mobile Bay. On July 4, 1800, Jacques Marquette and his party found "a pleasant bay" (present-day Gulfport) from which they sailed downriver to Mobile Bay; however, they realized that they were not on the route discovered by D'Urville two years earlier by Captains James Cook and William Bligh. In 1802 Governor Andrew Jackson appointed Nicholas Biddle as Surveyor General of Indian Territory; this led to development of what is now Escambia County because land grants were given out to European settlers in exchange for military service against Native Americans (the Seminole). In 1827, a group of investors known as the Pensacola Land Company bought 1,000 acres (400 hectares) along present-day Military Trail Road from Major Augustus Pritchard for $1 million dollars (). They named their new community "Greenacres" after nearby Hillsborough River where their ship grounded during a storm off Key Largo on December 12, 1826 while taking delivery of supplies from New Orleans. The company built houses with logs brought overland from Pensacola and . They also dug wells and planted chinampa trees which eventually yielded crops such as cotton and corn. By 1830 there were about 100 residents living in Greenacres; most worked in agriculture or took family vacations in nearby Tampa or St Petersburg each year. A school was opened in 1829 Elementary School #4 opposite today's Post Office building: it housed grades one through eight untilgrades nine through twelve became available in 1931 when Gulf Coast High School opened adjacent to the old post office across Military Trail Road from present-day Gulfport Municipal Airport/Stennis Air Force Base (). One significant event that occurred during this time period was the Battle of Long Island Sound () fought between American forces under Commodore James Stockton(1846-1848), who fought Spanish Admiral Teodoro Lopez de Santa Cruz (), resulting in one death on both sides plus dozens wounded near Plum Point (); however this battle remains controversial among historians due to discrepancies surrounding its sources - some claiming that Stockton personally killed Lopez de Santa Cruz while others claim he only watched as Santiago used a boarding party including cannons fire into Stockton's flagship USS Constitution () before fleeing back into Spanish waters (). On November 3rd 1830 David Stone founded Stone & Sons Insurance Agency "(now NationalStone Insurers)" here at 6th Street NW corner Main Avenue just north of Pensacola Boulevard; it quickly became one of Southwest Florida's leading insurance companies with operations throughout Escambia County until its merger with Allstate Corporation effective January 1st 1978 (). While much focus has been placed on Stone & Sons since its establishment many other aspects associated with early Greenacres have also received attention including local legend Johnny Appleseed (), who grew up just east of town playing baseball behind home plate at Gulfport Municipal Airport/Stennis Air Force Base (); prominent citizens such as Mrs George Waddell () served on various local boards including being instrumental in developing public schools within town limits.; several streets within town have been named after prominent locals such as Mrs J C Whitehead (), Dr F H Hammack (), Judge Edward Gannon (), Mrs M A Sims (); Rev J B Halliday (); Mayor Harry Beasley (); Dr Robert E Hunnicutt ; etc.. Many current residents are descended from these early pioneers such as Mr Joe Cavallo (); Mrs Jane Cavallo (); Dr Rick Hunnicutt ; Sheriff Woody Harris'; etc..
