In 1919, the company changed its name to American Optical Company and it continued to sell binoculars until 1935. During that time, they also produced eyeglasses and sunglasses as well.
Greenacres, Florida is a small town located in Miami-Dade County, Florida. The population was 7,611 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Miami-Fort Lauderdale-Pompano Beach metropolitan area. The first people to live in Greenacres were freed slaves who had been brought over as indentured servants by Andrew Jackson and his father, James K. Polk. After the Civil War, many slaveowners moved their families to New Orleans and other cities for political asylum. A group of white farmers named Robertson purchased 1,500 acres (500 ha) of land southeast of Greenacres from mission Indians in 1865. They called their new community "New Beginnings." In 1868, two brothers named George and Jesse Willoughby built a home on what is now Willoughby Road just east of present day Route 9Mile (now State Road 9). In 1869 they married Fannie Keyes and began raising a family that would include six children: Fannie, Jesse Jr., Mamie (Emma), Myrtle (Nina), Hilda (Hattie), and Willis Earl Willoughby III. In 1870 theKeyes family sold their holdings to Jethro Gibbs Vail and his wife Lucy Covington Vail for $1 million dollars ($ today). With this money they started what would become one of South Florida's most prominent citrus farming companies - GIBBS & COOLIDGE CANE RAILROAD COMPANY LLC.. In 1912 Everard Wrigley bought 3/8 acre (0.25 ha) northeast corner lot number 2 from Mrs Keyes for $10 dollars (). Wrigley renamed it "Wrigley Field" after his former employer - he became its first general manager. By 1917 Greenacres had an all black high school; there have been no white students since then! In 1924 Wrigley donated all rights to GREENACRES PARK TO THE CITY OF MIRAMAI FOR PUBLIC USE ONLY! The park has included baseball diamonds and playgrounds ever since! Today it contains more than 100 acres (.40 ha) of forested land including several mileslong hiking trails perfect for nature lovers! When World War II began in 1939 Greenacres was among Floridians who volunteered to help with military service on various fronts around the country. Many residents also worked on farms or in local factories during wartime shortages caused by the depression years.(See footnote below). From 1942 until 1945 many residents served in the United States Coast Guard stationed at Hollywood Harbor which lies offshore from Palm Beach County proper.( See footnote below). After war ended most Floridians returned home but some decided to stay put in what became known as "the rediscovery" period which lasted until 1964 when Broward County annexed much of northern Miami-Dade County.(Footnote: see map above.) This led to alterations such as moving White trash out of North Park while Black trash continued unofficially to reside near greenacre borders outside city limits.) This paper will focus primarily on history associated with Greenacres during this time frame beginning with its founding until 1964 when Broward County annexed much of northern Miami Dade County creating long term problems for both populations .

Greenacres was a small town in Polk County, Florida, until the 1970s. It is now part of the city of Tampa. The first settlers in Greenacres were farmers who came from Massachusetts in the late 18th century. They built their homes on large tracts of land that they acquired through purchase or trade. The early residents were Methodists and Baptists and they had mixed racial and ethnic backgrounds. In 1850, Greenacres was founded as a plantation by John Aikens. His family owned more than 100 slaves and he used them to cultivate crops, herd animals, help with household tasks, and provide him with entertainment during plantation visits to his home state of Georgia. In 1868, Aikens sold his interest in Greenacres to Wm Hwyree Holmes Jr., one of Tampa's earliest businessmen Holmes was a planter and merchant who also served as Mayor of Tampa from 1898-1900 In 1906, Holmes donated an acre (0.32 km2) of land to the University of Southwestern Florida for use as its new campus The university moved into its current building on this tract in 1912 By 1920, most all vestiges of Old Greenacres had been replaced by newer development . In 1928-29 Robert Humes developed what is now known as "Humes Place" on what once constituted much of Greenacres
Greenacres, Florida is a census-designated place (CDP) in Miami-Dade County, Florida. The population was 43,838 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Miami–Ft. Lauderdale–Hollywood Metropolitan Statistical Area. The name "Greenacres" was given to the area by Captain Charles Green of the U.S. Coast Guard in 1907 for his original citrus plantation there on Biscayne Bayou. At that time it consisted of about . most of which is now suburban development and greenbelts located around shopping malls and other office buildings near Interstate 5 and I-95. By 1990, however, only 2/3 of the land had been developed; most of what remains today traces its origins back to Captain Green's original ventures in citrus production and sale further inland from Biscayne Bayou on Everglades National Park boundaries then known as Kendall County - TODAY Palm Beach County! The CDP covers an area including parts of Hollywood Hills neighborhood annexed during a 2000 annexation by Fort Lauderdale, Broward County; Plantation Key community annexed during a 2006 annexation by West Palm Beach; Coconut Creek community annexed during a 2008 annexation by Lauderhill; Weston Eastside annexation completed on December 12th 2009 following approval from the Broward Board of Elections after more than two years of negotiations between local officials and developers.; Coral Gables annexations started in earnest in late 2009 but have not yet resulted in any tangible developments
