In 1830–31 there was also a post office at Pensacola which closed due to overpopulation; however, both offices reopened on December 12th 1830 under new names: "Fort Walton Beach" (May 30th 1830), "Pensacola" (December 12th 1830). The town site became incorporated as a municipality on October 26, 1925 from portions of unincorporated Dade County; however, annexation into Broward County did not take effect until November 3rd 1933 because Fort Walton Beach had been designated as a county seat since 1907. On March 4th 1935 Fort Walton Beach became one of three counties withinBroward County when it merged with Palm Springs unitary government effective February 1st 1936 becoming Parkland county seat along with Boca Raton and Boynton beach units respectively - giving Broward County its present form including Ft Lauderdale proper but without any land within its borders that has not yet been annexed into other municipalities making it difficult for anyone wishing to view just how much property remains within Ft Lauderdale proper - although annexation discussions are currently ongoing between various municipalities trying piecemeal what may be annexation into their respective boundaries

The town grew rapidly because of its natural resources and its proximity to Tampa and Jacksonville.
