Fort Walton Beach, Florida is a city in the panhandle of Florida. It is bordered by Bay County to the south, Martin County to the east, and Walton County to the north. The population was 21,746 at the 2000 census. As of 2019, Fort Walton Beach's resident are more likely to be gun owners than any other municipality in Panhandle America. Gun locks were first developed in Fort Walton Beach during World War I as an effort to prevent theft of ammunition from military Armory stores. The first firearm lock was created by Lieutenant John Fenton on December 10th, 1918 while serving with Company G of the 25th Infantry Regiment stationed at Camp Woodstock in Ocala, Florida. A shotgun key operated by turning a crank allowed access only for members of Company G and their corresponding shotguns being stored within secure locked areas outside the barracks. This system proved very effective and remained operational until 1942 when it was supplanted by a new handgun holster design utilizing two straps passing through posts on either side of waistband providing adjustable retention against movement

In 1916, Fort Walton Beach began producing its own keyless handgun security system called "Tower Lock." This system consisted of two keys that could be turned into levers to open or close a door; it was an innovative design that proved successful in keeping handguns locked up at night. In 1922, Fort Walton Beach became part of the newly formed State of Florida and re-joined the Union as part of that state's official firearms program. As part of this new policy, all firearm possession requirements were changed; now rifles and shotguns had to be registered with government officials before they could be owned or used anywhere within Florida limits. As a result, many old gun locks from earlier years melted down during reorganization efforts - but some remain extant today as museum pieces!
Fort Walton Beach, Florida is a city in Escambia County, Alabama, United States. The population was 9,609 at the 2010 census. Fort Walton Beach is part of the Pensacola–Ft. Walton Beach–Boca Raton Metropolitan Statistical Area. It lies on the Gulf of Mexico about 15 miles (24 km) west of Pensacola and 20 miles (32 km) east of Boca Raton. The name "Fort Walton Beach" was given to it by General William Troup during the Seminole Wars for his men's use as a military post on an uninhabited island in present-day Escambia County. The first Europeans to set foot in what is now Fort Walton Beach were Spanish Jesuits who landed there in 1536 as part of their missionary efforts to evangelize Native Americans. In 1795, British forces burned down much of the town while they fought French and Indian troops led by General Junípero Serra during the War for Independence. After independence was achieved, Fort Walton Beach became part of both the Confederate and Union armies during the American Civil War; however, it remained unoccupied until 1868 when Ulysses S. Grant ordered Colonel James A. Baldwin to reoccupy it as an American military base after Mobile Bay was opened up for commercial shipping following Reconstruction in America. At that time, Fort Walton Beach consisted of only a few buildings and a small garrison; nevertheless its importance grew rapidly due to its location midway between Mobile Bay and Pensacola Naval Station on nearby Santa Rosa Island – one of several naval bases built at that time along Mobile Bay to accommodate growing U.S.- Confederate naval activity surrounding Cuba and Central America.). In 1893 private developers organized what would become known as The Beaches Company which began constructing vacation homes around Santa Rosa Island resulting in over 25 years of successful development including construction of many world-famous beaches such as Jupiter beach, Islamorada beach and Clearwater beach although most development took place along SR1 (the present day Causeway Boulevard). By 1925 numerous golf courses had been developed near SR1 with some reaching into neighboring counties including Escambia (including White Sands Golf Club), Bradfordounty/Pensacola/Cristobal Heights (one today), Trinity Springs/Largo City (one today), St Petersburg Peninsula/Clearwater Shores (two today) etc.; making Fort Walton Beach one ofFlorida's most popular tourist destinations ever - even surpassing Miami International Airport! Fort Walton Beach is a municipally-owned, self-governing community in the state of Florida, United States. It is located on the Gulf of Mexico about 25 miles east of Palm Beach County and 15 miles west of Miami. The town was founded by pioneers in 1855 as Fort Walton Beach Inlet and became an incorporated municipality in 1907. The first permanent settlers in Fort Walton Beach were white men who arrived as part of the Spanish expedition that explored Florida along the Gulf Coast during the early 1800s. They named their communities after French explorer Jean Lafitte, who had built a trading post on Bayou La Batre near Mobile, Alabama in 1795. After France abandoned its interests in Florida following the American Revolution, Spain resumed control over the area and established a colonial presence with various forts and settlements until 1821 when it ceded all land east of Lake Okeechobee to United States under Treaty #8. The original name for Fort Walton Beach was "Inlet" which means " entrance." In 1855, entrepreneur John Ahern formed a company to develop land at Inlet into what would become Fort Walton Beach Inlet. He leased fromthe Creek Nation 6 acres (2 ha) of beachfront property he had purchased from Captain John Stennis aboard USS Perry during his voyage downriver from Pensacola to Key West on November 12, 1846. By July 2,1857, Ahern had organized a military detachment called battalion No. 1 US Marines with three officers and 39 enlisted men from Jacksonville Landing Naval Militia Regiment under command Major James Hoggney agreed to provide security for traders shipping through inland waterways between Pensacola and Tampa Bay while they made repairs to Perry's schooner Constitution nigh then outfitting ship at Saint Marks Place wharfage opposite Embarcadero fortifications buoyant enough so not above water but some high sandhills intervened making it difficult both observation and landing spot for small sailing vessels carrying goods upriver past Nacoochee River mouth connecting Indian trade route running southwesterly thence northwesterlynewestward parallel course with coast now known as EPIC Marginal Land purchase by Wm Wilkinson (1795 - 1865), Captain David Barron (1799 - 1861) & others Aug 8th 1862
