Fort Pierce was founded in 1821 as a trading post on the St. Johns River by Lieutenant Colonel James O’Neill and his men of the 1st U.S. Infantry Regiment, later called the “Pine Bluff Rangers.” The name Fort Pierce is composed of two words, forts (noun) and pierces (verb). The first fort was built on an exact replica of the Spanish fortress at Havana, Cuba. On November 4, 1821, Commodore John C. Fisk of the Florida packet ship “Cato” named Fort Pierce after then-Governorof Florida Thomas Pritchard Bowen who had sent him to object to Seminole Indian attacks on white settlers in that state. In 1828, Captain John Doan became commandant at Fort Pierce and began construction of what is now known as Doan’s Barracks which still stand today within the city limits of Fort Pierce. In 1840, Major General Andrew Jackson ordered that all American forts be destroyed in Florida except for one at Pensacola so that troops could be stationed there exclusively for military purposes rather than being spread throughout the state like they were at previous locations. However, because Pensacola was not Destruction Order No. 2A – meaning it did not fall under general control – it continued to serve as a garrison until 1841 when it reverted back to civilian control under Major General Alonso de la Raza y Ortega y Gasset who also served as its first Commandant from 1851 until his death in 1865. The post recommissioned on February 26th 1861 as part of General Beauregard’s Confederate Army during the American Civil War with headquarters located at Pensacola Naval Station where Confederate forces operated from April 1861 until July 1865 when they were transferred to New Orleans following Union victory over Confederate forces there in September 1865. The fort saw extensive combat during both wars including service against Federal troops under Robert E Lee followed by service against Imperial Japanese forces during World War II which led to its destruction by United States Marines in 1945! TodayFort Pierce contains visitor information centers containing exhibits about local history and culture along with replicas of some historic buildings including Doan’s Barracks which are open daily from 9 am to 5 pm!

Fort Pierce, Florida is a city in Sarasota County, Florida, United States. The population was 23,818 at the 2010 census. Fort Pierce was founded by German immigrants in 1845 as a mission station on the east coast of Cuba. It became an American military base and naval outpost during World War II. The city was posthumously renamed for General John J. Pershing in 1948 after his victory at El Caney and the end of World War II. After being destroyed in a fire in 1959, Fort Pierce was rebuilt as an Arts and Culture town with two cultural centers and numerous businesses. Today it is one of the fastest-growing cities in Central Florida with its growing entertainment industry, restaurants and nightlife. The first Europeans to set foot on what is now Fort Pierce were Captain Willoughby's men who landed on October 25, 1845 from steamboats anchored off Havana Harbor under command of Commodore John D'Souza Jr.. They had been ordered to explore new coasts of Cuba for Spain which had lost control over that area following their war with France years earlier. On November 2nd they discovered land that would later become Fort Pierce when Spanish explorer Alonso de Zúñiga named it La Bahía de San Marcos (the bay of St Mark). After landing here they constructed a small fortification known as La Gaceta (The Gazetteer), today all that remains are foundations and masonry walls surrounding what are now downtown streetscape buildings including The Palace Theatre which served as the fort's first headquarters building; DeBolt Mansion which housed both local government services for the area such as justice courts; First Baptist Church - also serving as教会の壁物 In 1846 Captain James Cook sailed into Indian Ocean looking for new sea routes to India open up since Spain had closed its ports to British ships trading with Asia while America still harbored large merchant fleets carrying goods back and forth between Europe and Asia Cook reached South Florida about midway through his voyage when he sighted what he thought may be land but instead found himself cruising inside Cuba peninsula where he changed course back towards Havana harbor before finally sighting land again just south of where he believed Cuba ended He reported this find to Admiral George Washington Irving who immediately ordered USS Constitution under Commander John Rodgers to sail past Cuban coastline en route to Maracaibo Venezuela onlyto return without finding any sign of land or Indians so Rodgers turned around & sailed back home Discovery has been credited along with Cook’s ship HMS Erebus & her crew captained by mutineers led by Royal Navy Lt William Bligh who discovered Australia
In 1846, Fort Pierce was founded as a military post by the United States. The fort served as a base of operations for Indian Wars and during World War II it played a significant role in the Battle of Fort Pierce.
