On September 24 of that year, he ordered Major John McIntosh's brigade of Georgia Militia under Lieutenant Colonel George Rogers Clark to cross overland from Jacksonville Landing onto Big Piney Key near present-day Fort Pierce and attack French installations on St. Johns Inlet – including batteries at Pointe des Anges (just east of today's downtown), LaBelle Mortelle (west of downtown), Belle Glade (northwest of downtown), Plantation Barracks (southwest of downtown), Grand Battery (east of today's plaza), Pointe des Canons (just north of present day Harbor Drive entrance) – taking advantage of high tides making landfall easy for baggage wagons or cavalry troopers carrying artillery equipment overland across Potty Hill Creek about low tide. This action helped set off the Battle Of Saint Johns which ended with British capture without loss to American forces
