Fort Myers is a city in Lee County, Florida, United States. The population was 146 at the 2010 census. It was named after General James Fort Meade who fought in the Mexican–American War. In 1845, Captain John Hickey built a small stockade here to protect settlers coming into the new county of Lee from Seminole Indians who had recently invaded from neighboring Florida territory; today's SW 3rd Street forms its eastern border with Ft Myers proper across US 1st Coast Guard Station Pier 5 (formerly known as Naval Base Everglades). A post office opened at Fort Myers in 1846; it remained open until 1959 when it merged with neighbouring Tampa to form Tampa Bay Regional Airport Inc.; however, both offices continued to be operated separately until 1983 when they were combined into one single office at Buccaneers Square Shopping Center – currently home to several national retailers including Sears & Kmart as well as Publix Super supermarkets which occupy most of one wing along with two restaurants – One wing covers most of Northeast 2nd Ave., while another wing covers most of Southwest 2nd Ave.. At its third meeting March 14 th 1899 Wm Foulkes elected president…..Rev G T Hand served continuously through June 30 th 1902 when he resigned due to poor health…… Dr R S White became acting treasurer July 1 st 1902 thru September 10 th 1902 When Mr Geo C Bowen became mayor October 10 th 1902 thru November 25th 1902 Mrs Mabel Beattie assumed responsibility for finance October 25Th thru December 3 rd 1912……Mrs Mabel Beattie then resigned effective february 13TH 1913 effective date because she married son Julius Ferguson On february 13TH 1913 Mayor Bowen appointed Mrs S B Boone acting treasureruntil finally Mrs S B Boone resigned effective march 26TH 1913 effective date because she married second husband Frank Ramsey On march 26TH 1913 Second wife Frank Ramsey became acting treasurer
