He named it La Habana after Havana, Cuba where he had been born two years earlier. In 1784 Francisco Xavier Gomez y Valdez founded Hotel del Carmen as a summer resort for wealthy Spanish Americans fleeing revolutionary troubles in Mexico during the Mexican Revolution In 1821 Manuel Martinez De Zandt established a cotton plantation east of present day Jacksonville called Zacatecas Viejo with about 1,500 acres (0.50 km2). After Zandt died in 1827 his estate passed to his son Antonio Lopez Zandt II who continued farming until 1830 when he sold out to Colonel Patrick O'Neill for $10 million dollars (). colonel patrick o'Neill later became known as الله محمد بن نافعال or "Aloha Pāoʻehelehua" - meaning “God is my refuge” or “adventurer turned president”-. After losing most of his money at an early age Pāoʻehelehua enlisted in the Union army during the American Civil War and fought at Appomattox Court House before being discharged due to illness in 1865. He returned home and started a small agricultural business but financial difficulties forced him into receivership twice before finally selling assets worth over $30 million dollars () including 5 plantations (), 2 hotels (), 4 steamboats (), 300 slaves (), and numerous other properties (). After purchasing land near Naples, Pāoʻehelehua founded Whatcom County () on November 9th 1889 which included parts of today's Orlando ). On December 12th 1893 Pāoʻehelehua married Lucy Ida Duncan () daughter of Samual Duncan (); Lucy ida duncan later became Lady Lassen (). They had one child: Mary Alice PaoʻelehaDuncan () born October 6th 1895 . In 1901 Governor Cletus Clay offered incentives for development within Whatcom County . As more people moved into Whatcom County , prices for real estate increased especially around central Jacksonville where many large businesses were located such as JCPenney & Co., IBM, Sears Roebuck & Co., Atlantic Telephone Company and Coca Cola Bottling Works (). These businesses attracted new residents who built high-rise buildings such as Masonic Temple No 2 (now Coral Gables Marriott Marquis) which opened its doors on February 14th 1912.; St Peters Catholic Church was completed just north of downtown Jacksonville in 1913; Jacksons Army Air Base was developed between 1926 and 1930; Pensacola Naval Shipyardopened its gates December 8th 1928; then Everglades National Parkwas created by executive order on March 14th 1959 following discussion among President Dwight Eisenhower,. From 1927 until 1969 there were no schools openable to black students because Gainesville School District refusedto let them build according to state guidelines (). However this changed when Gainesville High School reopened under newly appointed Superintendent Arent Hines who played an important role leading up to establishment of Central Florida High School adjacent to Gainesville State College campus that opened its doors August 6th 1974.). In 1990 Tampa Mayor Lawton Chiles announced plans for a new Downtown Tampa casino called Tropicana Fieldjobs will be created within areas like construction management services engineering design
