In the early 1800s, Florida City was a thriving community located on the banks of the St. Johns River. The city was founded by Spanish settlers in 1821 and quickly became a center of trade and culture. By 1840, Florida City had become one of the most important cotton growing areas in Florida. However, during the late 19th century, much of what is now downtown was destroyed by fire. At first, firefighters struggled to save buildings from burning down. But as they started to learn more about how to fight fires using wet bracing methods, they realized that they could save many lives by using these techniques when fighting other types of fires as well. In 1865, Captain John Sibley organized a volunteer battalion known as “The Volunteer Brigade” which began fighting forest fires in southern Florida City. This unit became known as The Firemen of Florida City and continuedfighting forest fires until 1898 when it merged with The Miami Beach Volunteer Company No. 2 to form The Miami Beach Volunteer Company No. 3 (MBVC3). From its beginning, MBVC3 has been credited with saving countless lives through their effective use of water resources and firefighters’ expertise in fighting blazes. They have also been recognized for their heroism by being inducted into the National Firefighters Hall of Fame in 1984 and 1991 respectively!

By 1903 Floridian Farms had increased its acreage to 10 acres (4 hectares) with production output that topped 2 million bushels per year! By 1915 Floridian Farms had become one of South Florida’s leading corn producers with assets totaling $2 million dollars ($100 million today!). After statehood in 1907, Flaxton rapidly expanded due to annexation byMiami from Key West until 1941 when key government facilities were moved northward into Overtown which destroyed much of Flaxtons commercial infrastructure including markets, hotels/motels etc., though some remain extant such as One Tree Hill Resort & Casino (now Hyatt Regency), which opened in 1984 adjacent to Fort Lauderdale international airport – one decade before South Beach would open its doors! The post office closed on December 31st 1935 - this coincides with Hurricane Andrew which made landfall on September 16th that year just south of Flaxton Pier! Thereafter little further development occurred until 1974 when Florida City annexed neighboring Overtown becoming its first municipality with over 100K residents within city limits! During this time new industries such as management consulting services sprang up mixed with heavy investment from major developers like Harry Shearer (founder/CEO/Chairman emeritus/President Emeritus American International Group Inc.) who purchased tracts along current day Aventura BoulevardEG&E company Xcel Energy Services plc.), currently owns most all land used byFlaCity including Aventura Mall now under construction directly across Duval Street from where FtLauderdale Park once stood !!! Most recently FLCity has seen major redevelopment taking place centered around Bayshore mall located immediately west side behind county courthouse complex now anchored by Herbalife plant as well prior site known only for speculation !!!

The fort served as a camp and later became an artillery depot for US forces during World War I before being abandoned in 1919 when hostilities ended; however it still stands today as a tourist attraction thanks to its unique history and architecture
