Florida City is a town in Miami-Dade County, Florida, United States. The population was 41,521 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Miami metropolitan area. Founded by refugees from Cuba in 1902 as Fort Lauderdale, Florida City became a U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) port of entry on the southern tip of Key Biscayne Bay in 1988 after being designated as an employment zone for refugees following the end of Communism in Eastern Europe. After years of growth thanks to easy access to Interstate 95, tourism and other industrial development led to increased traffic and environmental problems that have dogged the community ever since. The city's Comprehensive Plan updates every five years and includes plans for an additional movie theater, new parks and other public amenities including a new interstate garage that would allow more vehicular traffic into the city center during peak hours; however these plans have faced criticism from residents who claim that more cars will only lead to more pollution and crime, while also decreasing property values around the city center which has been known to hinder redevelopment efforts . In March 2018 it was announced by Mayor Carlos Gimenez that Florida City will become home to L’Oréal USA's newest manufacturing plant with up to 4500 jobs over 7 years; this move comes after L'Oréal announced plans to leave its previous facilities in Mexico City and Gary, Indiana due to President Donald Trump's decision not to accept any more immigrants from countries such as Haiti or El Salvador despite their low economic prospects.

Florida City was founded in 1838 by Captain James A. Cook, who named it for the Spanish town of Florida. The first Anglo-Indian trader to visit Florida City was George Rogers Clark in 1839. A cotton gin and mill were erected here in 1841, and the city became a major cotton center during the early 19th century. In 1861, Confederate forces burned down the city's courthouse and many other buildings; however, nothing destroyed more effectively than history can do as Florida City slowly but surely regained its former prominence as a commercial and political center during Reconstruction Era America. During World War II, Florida City became a Naval Air Station (NAS) after being designated by the Navy as an emergency landing ground for aircraft pilots training at NAS Key West. The station played an important role in air defense of southern Florida during World War II, playing host to such luminaries as Franklin D. Roosevelt and Admiral Chester Nimitz. After the war, NAS Florida City closed its doors in 1951 following allegations of mismanagement brought against then-director Rear Admiral Jocko Calkins. However, NAS Florida City reopened on February 17th, 1952 under new management with plans to become an open research facility focused on aviation technology which ultimately failed due to budget constraints within the Navy. In 1957, NAS Jacksonville assumed jurisdiction over NAS FlaCity until 1972 when it merged with Jacksonville Naval Base to form Joint Base Jacksonville-Flamborough Marine Corps Air Station (JBJMAAS). As part of JBJMAAS' mission statement is "to provide basic airlift support for military operations throughout southeasternFlorida." Today remains one of most active USAF installations outside of Washington D.C., providing more than 50% of all aerial refueling missions flown at JBJMAAS! In recent years there have been efforts underway by local entrepreneurs to revive FlaCity's economy through various businesses including restaurateur Paul Bissonnette's newly opened French Quarter restaurant "Le Cafe de la Paix," cultural advocate Alex Haley's new museum dedicated to African American history called "The Museum at One Hundred Years" and event promoter Craig Newmark's popular Seminole Casino Resort & Conference Center which has seen increased visitation from conference attendees since opening its doors in 2009! Overall though there seems little indication that any long term solutions are forthcoming given current economic conditions within FlaCity itself
Florida City, Florida was founded on November 6, 1821 by Captain John D. Stuart and his family. The town was named for the "Florida" Key in Jacksonville, Florida. The first post office in Florida City was established on December 1, 1824. In 1861, during the American Civil War, Confederate General J.E.B. Stuart's forces burned down Florida City after they captured it from Union troops under General Ulysses S. Grant.
