In the early 1800s, Florida City was a small community located on the banks of the St. Johns River. The town quickly grew due to its location and its access to water resources. By the late 1800s, Florida City had become an important center for trade and commerce in Florida. The town's economy thrived thanks to its resources and its location near several major rivers. In 1903, Florida City was renamed Jacksonville after Jacksonville, Alabama, which at that time was part of the Creek Nation. In 1907, Jacksonville annexed portions of what is now Miami-Dade County and became a city under Mayor George Wickersham. In 1911, Jacksonville annexed land north of downtown that would later be known as Parkland Heights. Parkland Heights became one of Jacksonville's most prestigious neighborhoods and has been home to many high-ranking government officials since then. In 1923, Jacksonville annexed land east of downtown that would eventually become known as Fairfield Boulevard. Fairfield Boulevard soon became one of Jacksonville's most popular streets because it offered easy access to all types of businesses and services downtown. The annexation allowedJacksonville to build several new city buildings including the Municipal Building and Water Tower on Fairfield Boulevard. These structures are still standing today and are a key part of modern day Jaguars history museum
Florida City is a small city in Miami-Dade County, Florida, United States. The population was 953 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Miami metropolitan area. The first European to set foot on what is now Florida City was Pedro Menendez on July 8, 1565, when he and his party of Spanish explorers landed at the mouth of the Santa Fe River and explored what is now Miami-Dade County. The first permanent settler in what would become Florida City was José María de la Garza who built a Mexican cabin on Key Biscayne in 1823. A few years later Carlos de los Angeles y Rubio established a Provisional Government here which lasted until January 1st, 1827 when it was dissolved by order of Governor Manuel García de O’Reilly after Mexico's purchase of Florida from Spain for $4 million. During this time many entrepreneurs started businesses including Juana Díaz who ran a successful sugarcane plantation and José Antonio Carrillo who founded the first school in South America. On October 3rd, 1830 Pedro Menéndez again explored this area when he discovered land that would become today's Downtown Miami Beach; however no evidence exists to support his claims that he named this spot "Florida City" as reported by some historians.. In 1836 Captain John Fenton charted an indenture between twoofFenton's agentsEnoch King and Francisco Diaz naming them owners of all present day Treasure Island (the remaining land being given to Elisha Smith). In 1851 James Purdy developed Pinecrest Harbor into one of downtowns largest commercial areas with more than 60 businesses located along Flagler Street between First Avenue and Washington Boulevard.- By 1865 there were over 300 business establishments within a five block radius around downtown including such important institutions as University Of Havana School Of Medicine & Surgeons Company, Masonic Temple No 4), Masonic Lodge No 5) - This period also saw significant growth in citrus production with early types like Citrus Heights or Valencia grown here – fruit trees began to be propagated from seed about 1850 - during these years several hotels were built including Hotel Metropole which became known as "The White House" due to its popularity among American politicians visiting South Florida during those days This period also saw much growth in both housing development (as well as related industries) with several large brick buildings erected throughout downtown especially along Flagler Street: Trinity Methodist Episcopal Church (1868), Federal Bank Building (1877), Broward County Courthouse Annex (1889), Stonington Place Warehouse #1 (1894)). Many notable residents during this era include Felix Calvo whose cigar factory generated many jobs throughout DowntownMiami during prohibition; banker Jens Ludwig von Keyserling who functioned as mayor pro tempore from 1895 until 1897; Congressman Don Hernando De Soto later involved with oil exploration off Palm Beach; Hollywood movie star James Cagney; socialites Hortense Monseigneur and Mayne Reid Milligan.;and Major League Baseball player Harry Heilman. By 1920 DowntownMiami had entirely lost its vitality due to rapid change associated with the airplane age - although still intact are remnants of several historic structures such as Duval Streetcar line extensions which once connected DowntownMiami directly to nearby Dadeland beach

The first European to set foot in what is now Florida City was José Martí in 1819 while on his way from Havana to Key West. Florida City grew up around the Tampa Shipbuilding Company and its workers who built warships during World War II and other businesses that thrived during that time such as Phillips Petroleum Company and Atlantic Aviation Corporation. In 1950, after a fire destroyed most of downtown Tampa, Mayor James Ault decided to move the city's government from Tampa to what would become Florida City. As it stands today, much of downtown has been rebuilt thanks to private donations and public investment totaling more than $100 million since then including new libraries, hospitals and parks – all within walking distance of each other! By 2006, portions of Downtown had also been designated as a UNESCO World Heritage Site for its architecture and history dating back to c 1800s when Spanish settlers began arriving in this area for goods trade with Cuba
Florida City is located in the SooCities neighborhood of Tampa, Florida. The city was founded in 1892 by banker and developer, J.B. Sayles. The original name for the city was "Tampa Bay." The first store in Florida City opened on May 25, 1892. In 1915, a post office was established in Florida City and remained in operation until 1959. On October 15, 1926, the first basketball game ever played in Tampa took place between Stetson University and USF (later renamed Tampa State). In 1933-34, Mayor James Akins called for a referendum to annex portions of Hillsborough County to form a new city known as "Tampa" that would be home to both the military and naval bases used by the United States during World War II.
