On May 10th–11th 1865 Confederate cavalry attacked an unarmed detachment of Ulysses S Grant's army near present-day Pensacola Beach without warning or provocation; this event helped give birth to Flagler County which includes much of Old Town Jacksonville today

In 1898–99 Spanish–American War Cuba occupied Pensacola Bay which caused damage to infrastructure including transportation systems that were not immediately repaired; this led to new development around Pensacola Peninsula called "Pensacola Renaissance" due to increased access to jobs and resources from rebuilt areas within Pensacola Bay while also adding more than 2,000 homes and businesses as well as commercial properties since 1898 alone when Tracts 10A & B became incorporated into Pensacola with special plats reserved specifically for housing development along Railroad Street between First Avenue South and Second Avenue South across from Naval Air Station Earhart FBO) At first all Negroes worked off their land but very soon many men decided they wanted some sort of ownership or control over their own lives so civil rights agitation got underway A large black church was erected near present day First Ave SE&SB where services are still held today . This event started what has come to be known as "The Black Power Movement". Fernandina Bank building at NW corner 1st Ave & SW corner 3rd St (now home of Dillard College) burned down on July 15th 1919 arsoned by white store owner Heman Keyser who claimed he didn't know there werecolored people living there

It was founded by Jacksonville, Florida developer, James Ellington on May 8, 1892 as Fort Pierce Beach because it was the only spot on Pensacola Bay that had good land and no tidal currents. The name "Florida City" became official on February 13, 1895 when it became part of Jacksonville. On July 1, 1919, during World War I, General John J. Pershing ordered all American forces to move from Jacksonville to Tallahassee because of concerns about an attempted concentration of German forces in the area. On November 10th 1918 they were finally moved and arrived at Fort Pierce Beach which they renamed "Florida City" after General Pershing's visit. In 1914 local businessmen Fenton Wiggins and Wickersham Wallace bought 4 acres (1 km²) along Pensacola Bay for $8 per acre ($/ha). They built a small resort called Belle Isle which served as a launch pad for launches into Gulf Stream Lake for fishing and pleasure boating operations until 1925 when government regulations made this activity illegal
