Ammunition in Florida City, Florida began with World War I when the United States government contracted to produce ammo for the war. The Ammo Plant was established in 1916 and produced 5 million rounds of ammunition a year. With the end of World War I, production stopped but it wasn’t until 1919 that American Ammunition Corporation (later called Winchester) acquired the Ammo Plant. They began producing ammunition under their own name and soon became one of the leading producers of ammunition in the United States. In 1934, American Ammunition Corporation merged with Remington Arms Company and production of ammo resumed under this new name. In 1945, Remington Arms Company merged with Browning armaments company and ammo production reverted to Winchester which continued to produce munitions until 1959. Since then, ammunition production in Florida City has been sporadic but always on par with industry average due to its proximity to major manufacturing facilities in both Illinois and Kentucky. However, as recently as 2002-2004 there were reports of some irregular activity at a small factory near town center where munitions were being produced; however no charges were ever filed against anyone or anything happened as a result.

In 1821 Englishman James Kenedy founded Gainesville on what is now Escambia County as a fur trading post and transportation center for Indian traders travelling from Mobile Bay to Cuba and the Spanish colonies in South Florida. When Escambia County was created in 1832, Gainesville became its county seat. In 1907, Gainesville annexed parts of Escambia and Santa Rosa counties to form a new municipality; this municipality was renamed Florida City in 1959 when it became an unincorporated community withinEscambia County. Florida City has been home to many notable people over the years including: The first school in Florida City was built on land donated by John Pemberton in 1868. Agricultural teachers started teaching there in 1870 and before long students were using the school as their homes too! In 1892, Dr. J C Weigel opened his medical office at 9th Street and Orange Avenue which would become one of gainville's most famous landmarks until it closed its doors for good in 1992 due to Hurricane Andrew damaged property along that street. Cleveland Amusement Park opened just south of where today's Plaza Tower sits on land donated by Drs Weigel and Pemberton respectively back then too! The park would eventually grow into one of Pensacola's most popular tourist destinations with more than 1 million visitors annually during its peak years! In 1924 Gulf Coast Broadcasting Company (now WOIO-TV) began operations out of studios located atop what is now known as "The Goliath" building across from today's Plaza Tower plaza! This station would later become Pensacola’s main news outlet with national programming throughout much of the late 1940s/early 1950s while also playing host to local events such as state fairs etc.. With television becoming prevalent throughout much of America during this time period let us not forget about our earliest media brothers and sisters who helped put Pensacola on the map through their broadcasts!!! Finally we come upon today’s day….. June 11th, 2020….A mere 363 days after gaining city status…..Pensacola celebrates 350 years since Jacobs Land Grant…Gainesville had already changed hands 3 times by then!!!

Florida City, located in Sarasota County, Florida was founded on November 14, 1835 by Captain John H. White and his family. The city’s name is derived from Spanish for “the head of the bay.” The first white settlers in what is now Sarasota County arrived in 1827. By 1830, the area had become a part of Tampa Bay and it was here that Captain White landed his ship, the brig Constitution, on November 14th of that year to begin exploratory trading with the native Seminole people. The original town site was on what is now East First Street and Third Avenue. At first there were just a few families living here and they used their cattle herds to provide food for their animals and themselves. WhenCaptain White died in 1841, his son-in-law James Wolk became captain of the vessel USS Constitution which took him to sea again looking for new land to explore. On February 14th of that year Wolk discovered Florida City while sailing past Fort Myers Harbor. He named it after Captain White as a gift to him and soon hundred more families had moved into this nascent community which grew rapidly under Wolk’s guidance. In 1865, Captain John Fenton sailed upriver from Miami Beach as part of an expedition led by Commodore John Denny seeking out channels through Great Lakes so that Confederate forces could be diverted away from the war effort at home. On July 4th off Florida City he sighted sailboats coming downriver from St Petersburg carrying General Robert E Lee with American soldiers accompanying them aboard CSS Georgia . After discussing matters with Commodore Denny,, Fenton ordered all ships within range opened fire on shore batteries positioned along both banks of the river opposite where Lee was landing his troops ashore; this attack resulted in no casualties on either side but did achieve Admiral David Dixon Porter's goal of scattering Confederate supplies further inland
