Fernandina Beach (formerly Fernandina, Fla.) is a small town located on the Gulf of Mexico in Broward County, Florida. The population was 9,851 at the 2010 census. Fernandina Beach is home to two shopping malls and four beaches: Clearwater Beach, which has a surf beach; NoHo Beach, which has a sand beach; Islamorada Beach, which has an oceanfront beach; and Boca Raton's Furniture Row Pier. The town first became known for its sugarcane plantations that were founded by Lieutenant Colonel James Waco in the early 1800s. After being purchased by John Dreyfus in 1868, the plantation continued to be run by his descendants until it was sold to Harry Laughlin in 1915. The area now known as Fernandina Beaches was developed as part of Laughlin's plan to expand production into what would become Miami-Dade County. A post office called Fernandina was established in 1903, and remained in operation until it was discontinued in 1954. The town name is derived from Spanish "Fernando," meaning "a small cape." In 1919, Ernest Hemingway moved to Fernandina Beach and began writing columns for "The Sun" newspaper there. In 1927 he married Martha Gellhorn and they lived there until she died in 1976). He then moved back to Spain but continued living there intermittently until his death in 2004. His papers are now stored at the University of Texas at Austin library (). In 1951 President Dwight Eisenhower made Fernandina Beach his summer White House resort while he toured America. In 1955 Dr Pepper began producing its first bottling plant here on Clearwater Boulevard near NoHo Beach.; it remains one of the most significant tourist attractions here today (). In 1966 General Electric built its largest factory yet here (), eventually moving all their operations out of Miami after World War II () In 1984 Anheuser Busch started production here of Budweiser (); it still produces beer here today (). On November 5th 2009 Hurricane hardwood products manufacturer Allegheny Industries announced plans to build an $85 million aluminum smelter at Plant 8 (in vicinity of NoHo) - provoking widespread criticism from residents who fear this will have a major impact on environmental destruction within their communityHeathrow Airport opened with little fanfare on September 17th 2020 just south of town

It is located on the Gulf of Mexico about 12 miles (19 km) east of Marco Island and 26 miles (41 km) north of St. Augustine. The name "Fernandina" comes from Spanish meaning "Island of Fernando." The earliest Europeans to visit this area were members of Captain James Cook's ships who sailed along the coast during his first voyage in 1765-67. They called this area Isla de Fernando because there was no island then known to exist near where Fernandina now sits - it remains one of only a handful places in the world with that name! In 1836, Indian traders from Tampa founded Fort Myers on an unnamed beach side spit about 12 miles (19 km) east of Fernandina Beach and 26 miles (41 km) north of St. Augustine. This initial land grant by Governor John Caddo included all that now makes up Monroe County - including present-day Fernandina Beach! In 1838, King George IV granted additional land for military purposes in what is today much of Putnam County - including present-day Fernandina Beach! In 1861, following the American Civil War, General William Troup ordered General Alexander Stephens to move Confederate troops out west and into central Florida so they could protect Mobile Bay and its supply lines important to Confederate war efforts! On November 11th, 1861 Stephens order arrived at Fort Walton Beach just south of present day Fernandina Beach - providing us with our first glimpse into what would become this dynamic community - home to both Union and Confederate soldiers during conflict! On October 24th 1906 – exactly 100 years later – a fire destroyed most or allof downtown Ft Worth after causing more than $5 million worth damage!!! As we sit here today viewing memories from back then – it truly seems like history never stops flowing through our fingers!!!
Fernandina Beach is a city in Sarasota County, Florida, United States. The population was 15,813 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Tampa–St Petersburg metropolitan area. Fernandina Beach is bordered on the east by Haines City and on the west by Bradenton. The town was founded in 1876 as a result of efforts to secure land for citrus production within its boundaries. The first settlers were Englishmen who had purchased large tracts of land east of Naples and set about developing it into a farming community with citrus fruit production as its primary purpose. By 1907, Fernandina had become home to 786 residents; however, its popularity as an agricultural center declined in the 20th century because of various factors such as competition from other areas and improved transportation methods that made growing produce possible elsewhere. In 1932, local entrepreneurs organized what would become known as the "Fernandina Beaches Civic League" to promote clean water supplies and general development around their town through public service projects such as building wells and improving drainage systems in order to improve soil quality for crops; this effort led to more people coming to Fernandina Beach over time and helped make it one of Florida's most successful small towns during that period. In 1984, locals met again to organize what would be known as "The Georgians" - an all-volunteer organization which helps preserve cultural heritage from past owners throughout Fernandina Beach's history including providing information about historical events (like when a street was named after a particular person or community) and helping maintain property rights for those who have been living in the town for years - resulting in much progress has been made since then both inside and outside of Fernandina Beach itself; some notable examples include becoming one of only two cities in Florida with full street names preserved from pre-20th century times while also hosting regular events like 'Georgian Days' every year where residents come together to celebrate their community’s history while enjoying refreshments).
