Eustis is a town with a permanent population of about 36,000 people and an annual growth rate of 3%. The name "Eustis" comes from the Muskogee word "ewasi" meaning "salt water." The first Europeans to visit this area were members of the Spanish Armada who sailed up the Florida coast in 1513 looking for new land to explore. They named this place Santiago de Cuba after their previous landfall on that coast. In 1795, Captain John Ross discovered Pensacola Bay and named it Eustis after his friend and mentor, James Cook. The first store in Eustis opened in 1868 by Wm. Fenton Jr., son of Colonel William Fenton Sr.. In 1925, Dixie Electric Power Company constructed a power station on White Sands Island adjacent to present-day Eustis Boulevard which provided electricity for much of central Brevard County. This was one of many large electric projects started during World War II as war production increased demand for energy resources. After World War II, local businesses began to prosper as the automobile market boomed and consumer demand for gasoline Increased; however many small businesses closed during the 1970s recession when innovation became difficult to find new customers for products such as computers and cellular phone service During economic downturns throughout history local governments have typically responded with tax cuts or spending increases in order to generate more jobs or revenue needed to maintain services like education or transportation infrastructure necessary for continued suburbanization Eustis has experienced rapid growth since 2000 due to its role as an important center for engine manufacturing withinBrevard County; however there are concerns about how these factories could keep pace with increasing global competition The town's economy relies heavily upon two main industries: engine manufacturing and aerospace manufacturing which account respectively FORTY percent and SIXteen percent of total employment Although engine production has been declining recently due to foreign competition (primarily from China), research indicates that other industries may also benefit from continued investment given Brevard County’s ample natural gas resources

In recent years, there has been a rise in development around Biscayne Bay and Eustis's downtown district has seen an increase in activity both commercial and residential. Today, Eustis is home to several historically significant institutions including Royal Palm Beach High School (now provides dropout education), Fort Walton Beach State College (a state college), Stonington Aquarium (the second largest aquarium in Florida) and The Howard Johnson Hotel which reopened after being closed for over 20 years.

Eustis was founded in 1892 as a small agricultural community on the east coast of Palm Beach Island by Danish immigrants and their families who were displaced by annexation of that island by Miami in 1898. They named their new community for the nearby estuary of Eustis Creek which they thought would provide fresh water for their well-manicured gardens. In 1907, local real estate developer Wernher von Braun bought 7 acres (2 km²) of land adjacent to present-day Eustis Boulevard and built what became known as "von Braun's House". Von Braun owned and operated an engineering firm there until his death in 1957. In 1928, Eustis became a city under the charter granted to it by GovernorBroward. It annexed neighbouring unincorporated communities of Boca Raton and Hollywood during World War II: these annexations were necessitated because Eustis was located entirely within the bounds established for military installation Palm Beach Naval Air Station (PBNAS). In 1959, voters passed a referendum calling for the merger with neighboring cities Broward and Miami Dade; this merger took place two years later on January 1, 1961. As part of its incorporation intoMiami–Dade County, City Council created an office to manage annexations which served as both a planning board and zoning board for all three citiesjoining together. After several rounds of consolidation between each city's governments over several decades growth proceeded slowly due to various factors including limited transportation access from downtown Miami; however annexation rates have increased significantly since then especially due to development around PBNAS airport which has made it easier to reach all parts of town via Interstate 95 rather than traveling through West Palm Beach or vice versa
