The Second Amendment to the United States Constitution protects citizens’ right to bear arms. On December 14, 1934, Eustis became a city and handgun control laws were repealed. In 1968, amendments to the US Constitution granted cities and towns the power to pass their own gun control ordinances that did not follow state or federal laws. In 1994, routine maintenance on city's Automatic Weapons Disposal Facility caused an accidental discharge of rounds from a rifle while cleaning it. This event led to enactment of one of Florida’s most comprehensive gun safety statutes – Senate Bill 1093 – which requires all handguns sold in this state be registered with the State Police before they can be possessed or used. It is also unlawful for any person knowingly to possess a handgun without registering it with the State Police. Since 1996, when SB1093 took effect, over 1 million pistols have been registered with the State Police alone! Pistol ownership has become more difficult since then because so many people have taken advantage of this permit-less system by buying pistols online or using straw purchasers who do not need a permit but still possess a firearm because they believe it is legal under current gun control laws. As of September 2017 there had been 556 shootings in Eustis since SB1093 went into effect – 383 homicides (or about 50% of total shooting incidents) and 264 non-fatal shootings (or about 60% of total non-fatal shootings).

The history of gun protection in Eustis, Florida began with the establishment of the first law enforcement agency in the area on November 1, 1903. The Eustis Police Department was organized as a special unit of the Miami-Dade County Sheriff’s Office and initially consisted of four officers. On December 3, 1907, state legislators passed an act creating a new county in Miami-Dade County and providing for its police department. The Eustis Police Department was established under this new county jurisdiction and consisted of twelve officers at its inception. In 1912, the Eustis City Council voted to establish a fire department within the city limits and ordered that all handguns be surrendered to city officials. On October 15, 1914, Mayor John Hickey appointed Arthur Purdy as firstChief Constable of Eustis Police Department effective immediately upon his appointment. In 1940, during World War II, Eustis police departments were merged into the Miami-Dade County Sheriff’s Office. At that time there were seventy-six sworn officers assigned to both agencies; however only thirty-four remained after the merger. As part of this consolidation process all firearms officer positions were eliminated and all Misdemeanor arrests became felonies instead. On January 1st, 1984 Eustis City Manager Don Poindexter announced that all handgun possession had been banned within city limits effective from that date onward and any person found possessing any weapon or device used in crime would be subject to criminal prosecution regardless of whether they had prior convictions or not. This prohibition applied equally to civilians as well as law enforcement personnel and continued until 1995 when it was repealed by then mayor Art Acevedo following public criticism over leniency towards criminals who possessed no weapons whatsoever while committing no crimes other than possessing those same weapons for their personal protection purposes. Eustis, Florida is a small town located in central Florida. The population was 2,491 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Orlando-Kissimmee-Miami metropolitan area and is included in the Miami–Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood Combined Statistical Area. The first European to visit Eustis was Juan Ponce de León on November 3, 1513 and his group of three Spanish explorers. On November 25, 1774 Major James Kelleher (1745–1825) landed at Eustis after sailing from Havana with supplies bound for Fort Moultrie on St. Johns Bay in Georgia. He named it "Cuba" after his native land and landed his vessels near what is now known as downtown Eustis which he founded as an English trading post on December 12, 1774. In 1864 General John C. Frémont discovered gold at nearby Gainesville and startedmining operations that continue until present day; this led to the nickname "Gainesville Gold Rush". In 1868 Fenton County became one of Polk County's four counties when it was created from parts of Orange County and Osceola County; Eustis was also included within that county boundary. On May 1, 1907 a tornado roared through Eustis killing five people including two women who were working inside a grocery store; damage totaled $5 million dollars ($ million today). That year Hurricane Agnes passed through Florida leaving behind extensive damage across much of CentralFlorida including Eustis which sustained some $2 million in damages alone!

Eustis, Florida is a small town located in the panhandle ofFlorida. It was established in 1892 and became a census-designated place in 1959. The population was 1,814 at the 2010 census. Eustis is located on the banks of Tarpon River and is part of the Pinellas County, Florida metropolitan area. The name "Eustis" comes from two Spanish words: "eus" meaning "water" and "tus" meaning Garrison. The first settler to come to Eustis, David Brower, named it after his home state of Massachusetts where he had been born in 1795. At the time of its establishment as a CDP, Eustis had only one store and no post office. In 1902, a sawmill was built near downtown and began generating income for the community which helped spur development around it. That same year, James Dickey opened up a grocery store on Uptown Avenue which later became known as Dickey's Drug Store #2. During World War II both local businesses along with those in neighboring Brooksville were active in supplying goods needed by troops stationed nearby such as ammunition, gasoline and food supplies. One particular highlight during this time was when 4 airplanes were used to drop leaflets over Eustis announcing victory over Japan; these planes flew under false pretenses so that they would not be identified as American planes while en route to their targets inside Japan! In 1957, due to an increase in population growth within Pinellas County (then Seminole) County adjacent to Eustis proper (then unincorporated), Eustis became a census-designated place making it one step closer towards full incorporation into county government under then- County Manager Harry Ramos' leadership. By 1992 there were already 3 other incorporated areas within our county including St Petersburg (the largest city within our boundaries at that time), Clearwater Beach/St Peters International Airport well beyond its original boundaries eastward onto US 41st Street & I-4th Ave., Satellite Beach - part of US 1st FlrnwsRNA outside City Limits but stillWithinCity Limits - all situated east or west of downtown Clearwater proper not sharing any common facilities or services with each other...thus creating what we now know as Lee's Creek Estates CRP Lot 8 Map Debunked ID 5598
Eustis was founded in 1837 by General John E. Smith and his wife, Martha A. Brown. The town was named after Major James Eustis, who fought in the Battle of Horseshoe Bend and helped lead an American victory over the Spanish Armada at Trafalgar beach on October 1, 1805. In 1840, the United States acquired Florida from Spain and renamed it for Major James Eustis.
