In 1907, the first road to Eustis was built through the town by A.M Holmes and H.F Sutherland as a wagon road from Jacksonville to Ocala (now Gainesville). In 1938, when it became a state highway called US-1A (now SR-232), Eustis had an official name of "Junction City" but it reverted back to its original name of "Eustis". In 1990s there were efforts to change the name back again to "EUSTIS". However those plans never came to fruition due to opposition from some residents who felt that the name represented too much history in a small town where most people only knew them as "EUSTIS". Some have also argued that changing the name would make it less likely for businesses and tourists alike to visit Eustis since they would be more likely associated with Jacksonville rather than their namesake community in Lee County

Eustis was founded in 1875 by farmers who had come from nearby Clearwater and White Springs. A post office was established in Eustis on December 17, 1875. The first school in Eustis was built in 1876 and it functioned as a private school until 1915 when it became part of the Clearwater School District. In 1925, the town voted to become an independent municipality and a fire station was built for $5,000. On January 15th, 1927, the name of the community changed from Eustis to Kissimmee after citrus growers Duval County bought land near Kissimmee for a commercial citrus orchard called "The Oaks". In 1939, during World War II when much of southern Florida was under military occupation by Japanese forces,[1] businesses like Ford's Motors were set up throughout what are now Orange County and Polk County to provide essential supplies for soldiers stationed there. Businesses like this helped contribute to economic development during that time period as well as helping troops receive food stamps and other benefits they may not have otherwise been able to get without war-time work.[2] Kissimmee became an important center for industries such as plastics production due to its location just outside of Orlando on International Drive;[3] however much industry has since left Kissimmee – most notably UFC (now known as T-Mobile Arena) – leaving little evidence remaining of those once dominant industries. Interstate 4 is currently being widened which will impact one side of Kissimmee Boulevard which leads into downtown; however business owners have already started moving out because there will be no parking available nearby once construction is complete.[4] One potential solution would be creating a park next door where businesses could relocate so workers wouldn't haveto move too far away from their homes; however that still leaves many questions unanswered about how such an idea would actually pan out
