In 1948, Eustis native Loren Sayers started his own manufacturing company, Hats Unlimited Inc., which continues to make firearms hats today (albeit with a different name). Sayers' original designs were based upon traditional cowboy hat patterns dating back to the 1920s; these early guns/ammunition hats are still popular among collectors today due their unique shape and design. In 2001, Sadlers Guns & Ammo relocated from its original location on SR 579 north of I-75 into an expanded building on Old State Road 153 west of SR 341 (which is now known as First Baptist Church Drive). It is interesting to note that not every manufacturer who produced firearms hats between 1903 and 1958 operated out of Eustis proper; some actually located their operations elsewhere within central Florida or even Texas! In 1898 Mrs. Emma Batten (nee Cook) changedEva's original spelling to Estevan which she kept until her death in 1954; after that time the name reverted back to Eustis by deed poll (not by purchase). In 1956 Dr. Edwin Pogue bought land east of town for a new high school campus; he donated nearly all of what remains today – more than 1300 acres – including most of Gadsden Park which now makes up much of downtown Eustis. Today there are three college campuses within easy driving distance: USF Tampa Bay Campus; FIU Tallahassee Campus; and USF Orlando Campus The first post office opened in 1876 in Atchison, Kansas Territory . When moved to its present location near Pensacola beach in 1916 it became known as "Eustis". A fire destroyed many buildings on Main Street around 1915 so another new Location was designated on Railroad Avenue just south of Highway 1 about 1920known then as simply "Town Hall". A committee formed November 9th 1924 decided upon the current name change from Atchison, Kansas Territory to Eustis for historical reasons only although no formal vote ever took place! The community slogan at that time was “Welcome To Our Fine Town” It was not until 1951 when residents voted unanimously to rename their town “EUSTIS” after General George Washington Carver who had given them invaluable aid following their devastating flood damage caused by Hurricane Andrew in 1992
