Edgewater is a small town in Alachua County, Florida, United States. The population was 1,813 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Gainesville–Lakeland–St Augustine Combined Statistical Area. The name "Edgewater" comes from the Indian word meaning "to flow". In 1851, Jacksonville attorney and landowner J.H. Edgerton donated land to build what would become Edgewater Park on what is now US-27 south of downtown Gainesville. In 1902, developer A.F. Hargrave purchased the land east of downtown Gainesville and developed it into a residential area with villas for sale and vacation rentals called "Pinecrest", which remain today as one of Edgewater's most popular attractions. In 1925, phosphate fertilizer magnate Jerald Pemberton bought 8 parcels totaling in size adjacent to Pinecrest for $2 million dollars making him the first person to own all or part of any major city in Florida (Edgewater would be acquired by Pembroke Pines municipality less than a year later). With this purchase, Pemberton became known as one of Florida's largest landowners and businessesman; he would continue to make significant contributions to the community over the years through his philanthropy and business dealings throughout much of central Florida including Cypress Hills Golf Club in Orlando where he founded it in 1927 (now owned by Wyndham Worldwide), Morningside Nursing Home located on NW 2nd Street between Woodstock Rd./Pinecrest Dr., Parkside Shopping Center off SW 4th Ave., Coconut Grove Country Club which opened its doors in 1928 (now owns by NRG Energy) and several other properties that remain today within Edgewater boundaries such as Druid Hills Racetrack on NW 12th St., Eustis Naval Air Station just east of town Limits going south on SR 1410 about 3/4 miles west of town limits near Fort Walton Beach until its closure in 2006 due to budget cuts preceding Hurricane Katrina aftermaths) - during this time period many new homes were built including several high-rise developments such as North Lakeshore Condominiums built just north of town limits along US-27 paralleling Pensacola Bayou before being replaced by more mid-sized housing units since then called South Lakeshore developments following similar trends typically involving larger lots with more exposed outdoor living spaces designed for people who spend their summers outside - these large developments are no longer extant but some smaller older houses still stand today within town limits

Edgewater is a small town in Polk County, Florida, United States. The population was 2,496 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Orlando–Kissimmee–Sanford metropolitan area. Edgewater was first settled in 1892 by George Eddy and his family on a tract of land that he bought from the Seminole Nation. In 1903, the name of the town was changed to honor Admiral Samuel Eliot Morison because he had donated land to make way for an Naval Air Station at Eglin Field. The town's original stores were built near where present-day State Road 9 intersects US 1 (now known as Colonial Drive). In 1911, construction began on what would become Alachua County's first courthouse and jail; it opened in 1912. That same year, Edgewater became one of Florida's twelve towns incorporated under state law. The Osceola Rubber Company established its plant here in 1924; it still operates today as a major employer in Edgewater. In 1936, Edgewater became one of two municipalities served by Kissimmee Municipal Airport; it remains that airport's largest user today. During World War II, local businesses produced munitions for the war effort including aluminum cans and beer cans made from rayon film used by United StatesAAF bombers during their strategic bombing missions over Europe; these products continue to be manufactured here today. On July 15th, 1960, Typhoon Floyd struck Naples Featherdome killing more than 100 people and causing extensive damage across much of Central Florida including Edgewater proper which sustained severe damage to both its homes and businesses totaling $19 million dollars within three years post-floodzilla
Edgewater was founded in 1885 by J. M. Brickell and his wife, Julia. The city's first store, the A&P Store, opened on November 1 of that year. It was the largest grocery store in Jacksonville at the time. In 1915, J.M.'s son John Witherspoon bought out his father's share of the business and changed its name to "The Edgewater Trust". In 1928, The Edgewater Trust merged with Jacksonville Bank & Trust Company to form Jacksonville Bank & Trust Corporation (JBBC). In 1955, JBBC merged with First National Bank of Florida to become First National Bank of Florida Corporation (FNBF). FNBF became a non-bank financial institution on December 15, 2006 when it merged with SunTrust Banks LLC (SunTrust) in a $13 billion stock purchase. On October 25th, 2007FNBF announced it would be selling all its assets within two years including its branches in Jacksonville and Sunrise Beach to JPMorgan Chase & Co., providing jobs for approximately 150 people over that period as part of JPMorgan's expansion into banking services inside regional malls across North America. The sale was completed on October 29th; however there were some protests against the deal due to concerns about job displacement and potential racism involved in the merger
