Thereafter, Scope Mounts became an integral part of Miramar's history as it served as both a launching pad for bombers during World War II, as well as providing storage for Navy fighter jets during peacetime until it was replaced by NAS Whiting Field in 1972. Edgewater's long association with scoping has resulted in many unique items being collected by local residents over the years including sniper rifles from WWII and various types of shotguns dating back to 1871. Today, Scope Mounts is one of Jacksonville’s favorite tourist attractions with its museum containing more than 50 firearms from throughout Jacksonville’s history!

By 1800, it had become part of the Seminole Tribe of Florida. In 1824, Spanish settlers arrived in what is now Hillsborough County and began to establish farms there. A road called "The Tamiami Trail" connected Tampa with Homestead where many English settlers were also settling at this time. In 1881, two brothers named George and John Sawyer bought 640 acres (248 ha) of land east of Tampa from the Seminoles for $3,000 cash only. They started to build a farmhouse on their new property which they named "Edgewater." This became one of the most important early commercial centers in Hillsborough County because it offered transportation links between Tampa and its surrounding communities as well as access to resources like waterfowl hunting grounds and lumber mills along the Tamiami Trail. By 1920, Edgewater had grown into an influential community with over 1,500 residents living in homes adjacent to downtown while smaller businesses dotted around much of rural areas around town including agriculture, mercantile endeavors such as grocery stores and feed stores etc., light industry (manufacturing products including radios and televisions), printing plants etc., among others services that thrived during this period includes florists/gardeners/photographers etc., until recently taxi service providers among many others
