At that point,Edgewater had become one of only a few municipalities in Florida that still banned handguns altogether from their citizens' arsenals!

The name derives from two words: "edgewater" meaning "shoreline" and "landing", which may account for its status as one of the most isolated communities in Daytona Beach area. In 1924, Edgewater became part of what is now Daytona Beach Township; however, it remained autonomous until 1959 when it joined with other municipalities within Hendry County to form the present-day city of Daytona Beach. In 1970, Edgewater amalgamated with neighbouring townships to create Boynton beach; however, this merger did not occur without incident as some residents objected to the name change due to their connection with Boynton beach in neighboring Palm Bay
