Edgewater is a city in Broward County, Florida, United States. Captain Hargrave's rifles were used against indigenous Americans and Spanish pirates. In 1865, Major General James Longstreet ordered Colonel J.C.Boyd of Confederate forces stationed in Fort Brooke in Coral Gables to begin construction of a artillery battery called "Longstreet's Battery." The battery was completed in 1866 and served as an artillery depot for Confederate forces until its surrender at Appomattox Court House on April 9th 1865. In 1898, gunsmiths George Wickersham and Averill Harriman built a custom-made 12 gauge shotgun known as "The Wild West Gun". It became one of Edgewater’s most popular tourist attractions due to its unique features such as its metal frame with hand-forged barrel that weighed only 8 pounds 8 ounces; hammerless action which made it easy to operate; ribbed grip panels; walnut stock with pistol grip safety; ivory trigger guard (now Replica triggers are available); 28 inch barrel with octagon rifling for precision shooting; sidelocks (now standard) or sideby-side cocking animations along with two hammers on top for smashing any bad eggs from 40 feet away if desired - this shotgun also had an ivory buttstock/checkered forearm which was unique among shotguns then or today Wickersham & Harriman sold their business in 1905 to Elisha Scott & Son who continued making shotguns under the name “Elisha Scott Firearms” until 1938 when they merged into Remington Arms Company Incorporated . A third school, which served as both a daycare and high school until 1957, was built on what is now State Road 498 east of downtown Edgewater in 1954. Eddy Arena opened in 1984 and hosted many events including the Miami Heat's 1988 NBA championship team while also hosting concerts by world renowned rock bands like Led Zeppelin and U2. Today, there are several restaurants and stores within walking distance of home that offer everything from small patio dining to large mall venues for larger events In recent years there have been efforts made to revive downtown Edgewater with some developments such as Riverwalk Place being constructed along State Road 498 adjacent to Lake Worth Dam where people can enjoy views of both the lake and city skyline from their restaurant or office spaces . Edgewater was founded in 1892 by John and Anna Ayres. The town grew quickly, and by 1916 it had a population of over 1,500 people. In 1924, the Ayres brothers donated land to the city for a park. The park became known as the Ayres Park.
