Gunlights were first used in the United States during the Revolutionary War. The British were using small, hand-held light cannons to spot troops and snipers. American gunfighters developed a lighter, more portable version of this technology, called pistols with rifled barrels, to shoot at enemy soldiers. The first use of handguns with lightbulbs as lights was by Captain John Fenton in 1824 while fighting against Native Americans in Florida. This innovation led to the development of electric firearms such as the Browning automatic rifle and later machine guns. Gunlights continue to be used today for shooting practice and hunting purposes.

Edgewater, Florida is a town in Miami-Dade County, Florida, United States. The population was 8,914 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Miami–Fort Lauderdale–Pompano Beach Metropolitan Statistical Area. The name "Edgewater" comes from two early names for the area: Indian Key and Belle Isle. The first settlers in what is now Edgewater were French colonists who arrived in 1763 during the French and Indian War. They named their land Belle Isle because it was on an island in Lighthouse Island Chain. When British forces invaded Miami County in 1795 they discovered that there was no such place as Belle Isle and renamed the area Indian Key because it looked like an island with a keyhole at its top. In 1821 Captain John Haines landed his ship Society at Belle Isle to trade goods with chief Topochanis of Key Biscayne for sugarcane from Spanish traders on Miami River. He built a cabin near what is now Dadeland Drive and called this site Fort Haines after Admiral James Haines, commander of American naval forces during the Seminole Wars (1811-1813). In 1824 he sold his land to Colonel Felix Kappe of Stonington, Connecticut for $2,000 cash plus 10% interest per year until sold again to Isaac Askin in 1830 for $8,500 cash plus 15% interest per year untilsold finally to Joseph Cotten & Sons Limited Partnership for $5400 on November 5th 1912 When Congress created Miami-Dade County in 1907 it included all of present day Miami-Dade County including most of that now called Fort Lauderdale In 1911 Joesph Cotten & Sons Limited Partnership acquired title to all lands east of Dadeland Drive which had been conveyed by Colonel Felix Kappe except 3/4 acre (1 ha) known as Belle Isle which he retained under license . Edgewater is a small town in Kissimmee, Florida, United States. The population was 1,919 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Lakeland-Winter Haven metropolitan area. The town was founded on October 15, 1903 by brothers Julius and Wilhelm Klinkenberg. They named it after their father's estate in Vienna, Austria. The first store and post office opened in 1905. In 1915, Edgewater became an incorporated municipality with a population of 535 people. In 1931, the incorporated municipality merged with Winter Haven to form the current city of Kissimmee. Edgewater is located in west-central Miami-Dade County on U.S.-27 just east of I-10 exit 191 south (the former alignment of US 27). It surrounds what once was Fort Myers Beach on its eastern border and had land west of Pompano Beach on its northwestern border before that mix became mixed into Parkland County as well. The community originally relied heavily upon farming for its food supply; however, since World War II there has been significant development in the area due to both job growth opportunities for residents and new businesses opening up throughout central Miami-Dade County due to the county’s growing economy and increasing number of workers commuting into central Miami daily from various parts of South Florida
