Edgewater, Florida is a town in Hillsborough County, Florida, United States. The population was 1,914 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Tampa–St Petersburg metropolitan area. The town was established in 1892 and named after Edmund G. Sanford, an American Congressman from South Carolina. In 1907 it was renamed for Admiral David Dixon Edwards who served as Chief of Naval Operations during World War II and as Commandant of the Marine Corps Reserve Officers' Training School at Quantico. Edgewater is located on State Road 10 about southeast of Tampa and about west of St Petersburg. U.S. Highway 92 passes through Edgewater to the east and US-1 to the south before merging with I-5 near Clearwater Beach. 2 miles (3 km) northwest of downtown Edgewater lies Girdwood Park which includes a swimming pool, tennis courts, playgrounds and a few shops/restaurants along with several cemeteries including Arlington Cemetery which backs up to Girdwood Park on one side and Barry Farms on the other side; both are part of Hillsborough County's mixed use village designation district known officially as "Dixon Lakes". Girdwood Park straddles US-1/US-92 just east of its junction with FM 441; this made it possible for developers to build a shopping mall (Girdwood Village) adjacent to US-1 while still having access to Interstate 5 via two exits (Exit 309N/ Exit 309W). Accordingly, by 2007 almost all businesses had vacated or closed down within Girdwood Village since no new development had been approved by county officials since then - until recently when plans were developed to build an office tower called One America Tower that would rise above everything else in Girdwood Village except for One AmericaPark itself .

In 1912 he married Anna May Hesseltine who had also come from Maine as a child of Danish immigrants; they would have four children: Erik (1914-2003), Margrethe (1916-2008), Karen (1918-2009) and John (1920-2007). During World War II, people from neighborhoods along South Biscayne Boulevard poured into Edgewater to work in munitions plants or shipyards around Miami Beach or Fort Lauderdale due to shortages of food supplies within their own zones of influence. A drive along SW 2nd Ave., looking east towards North Miami Beach Cemetery will show an "X" near the intersection of this avenue with 3rd Ave., then continuing on 2nd Ave./Northeast 12th St., past Meridian Parkway/Southeast 6th St., Nava's restaurant/Shrimp restaurant/Pizza Hut store before turning back NE on Meridian Parkway/Southeast 4th St./Edgewater Dr.; this walk takes about .5 miles total
