In Edgewater, Florida, there has been Ammunition history going back to the 1800s. The first shots heard in this area were fired by Indians in 1776 during the American Revolution. The area that is now Edgewater was once part of Fort Walton Beach, which was a military post established on the mainland east of Fort Walton Beach. This fort was used as an ammunition depot and also served as a base for pirates during the early 1800s. In 1839, Jacksonville acquired Fort Walton Beach from the federal government and began using it as its own military post. As Jacksonville grew and prospered, so too did its need for ammunition. In 1849, the first commercial Ammunition store opened in Jacksonville. By 1860, there were at least six Ammunition stores in Jacksonville. During World War I (1914- 1918), Edgewater became one of several areas in Florida extensively bombed by Allied forces due to their efforts to destroy vital munitions production facilities across Germany and Austria-Hungary. Bombs fell primarily on businesses and residential areas but also killed two people and injured dozens more near Edgewater’s downtown district; many buildings still stand today testament to this devastation wrought by wartime air raids!
Edgewater is a small town in Pasco County, Florida, United States. It is located on the Intracoastal Waterway and bordered by Port St. Lucie to the north and Progreso to the east. The population was 1,811 at the 2010 census. The first white settler in Edgewater was Joby Sabin in 1876. He built a cabin on an island in Lake Worth that he named "Sabin's Island". In 1881, Wm. J. Ladd bought the land around Edgewater from Joby Sabin and laid out a town of brick homes, stores, and schools on what is now US-27 near the intersection of US-1/SR-246 (now SR-521) and State Road 442 (now Business Loop 521). The name came from Ladd's purchase of , or "shore" as it was then called, which extended along both banks of Ochlocknee Creek. In 1907, John Hargrave purchased some land along US 27 between present day SR-247 and SR-521 from Wm. J. Ladd for $25 per acre ($ today). This area became known as Hargrave Heights after Hargrave developed it into a country estate with tennis courts, a library, movie theater, guest cottage and other amenities for guests who visited his farmsteads in nearby Cartersville (now part of Progreso) or Fort Myers Beach (then unincorporated territory within Pasco County). In 1928 Don Ahern subdivided over 2 square miles () of land lying south of present day US 27 between SR-247 and I-75 into tracts numbered: 1 through 11; 12 through 16; 17 through 19; 20 through 22; 23 through 25; 26 through 29; 30 through 32nd District lot #1.; 33rd District lot #2.; 34th District lot #3.; 35th District lot #4.; 36th District lot #5.; 37th District lots: 38th thru 41st district lots number 1., 2., 3., 4., 5., 6., 7., 8./9./10.; 42nd district Lots: 43rd thru 45th district lots number 1.), 2.), 3.), 4.)
