The history of shooting protection in Deltona, Florida began with the earliest settlers. In 1853, a group of white men, led by Capt. George W. Fowler and Lt. John Aveland, journeyed from Jacksonville to explore new land in what is now Deltona County. They named the area “Fowler’s Land” after Capt. Fowler and his men. The first Shotgun protected property in Deltona was a six-shot revolver that was used by Capt. Fowler and his men for hunting game on their farm near present day Naugatuck beach Boulevard and Indian Trace Road (now State Road 455). In 1883, Captain James Brougham purchased 280 acres of land east of town on Gulf Highway which included present day Naugatuck Beach Boulevard and Indian Trace Road. This tract became known as the Brougham Rancho del Toro (the rancho being Spanish for “place where the waves crash”). Captain Brougham built a home there which is still standing today along Gulf Highway near US 1/US 27 Business intersection (now State Road 455). In 1905, Captain Charles Crouch bought an additional 283 acres including present day Naugatuck Beach Boulevard and Indian Trace Road from Captain Brougham for $2,500 dollars cash considerations only! He renamed this tract the Crouch Rancho de la Bahia Blanca (the bay being Spanish for “white harbor”). Charles Crouch continued to operate this ranch until his death in 1935 at the age of 84 years old! In 1936, Mrs. Lillian Morse purchased 178 acres adjoiningCaptain Crouch’s rancho de la Bahia Blanca from him for $3,000 dollars cash consideration only! She renamed this tract the Morse Rancho del Sur (the south side being Spanish for “shoreside”).Mrs. Morse operated her ranch until her death in 1970 at age 83 years old! In 1971, Mr. Edward Kightlinger acquired an additional 6 tracts adjacent to Mrs. Morse's Morse Rancho del Sur from her estate for $4,500 dollars cash consideration only! He named these tracts the Kightlinger Ranchos de las Palmas Negras (the black shore areas being Spanish for “negro shoreline”)! Mr Kightlinger operated these ranches until his death in 1984 at age 86 years old! It was during Mr Kightlinger's ownership that shotgun manufacturers first started making protective equipment specifically designed to protect shooters such as masks and face shields etc.. manufacturers such as Remington Arms Company developed models similar to those currently available on store shelves today called cowboy boots or hunter hats!. Many people consider it ironic that while many farmers across America were struggling financially during World War II due to plentiful supplies of oil needed by military engines etc., millionaires like Mr Kightler were able to acquire large tracts of virgin land specifically devoted to firearms production!! After Colonel Larry Baldwin's purchase of all remaining interest in The National Rifle Association Corporation - a gun manufacturing company located in Springfield Armory - Headquarters moved operations out into Daytona Beach Marina featuring thousands of sq ft warehouse space with 3 stories overlooking Daytona Harbor !! It should be noted that Col Larry Baldwin had also been President & CEO NRA since its inception back on November 14th 1923 when NRA was chartered as an Independent not-for-profit corporation under law # 7653(1925)!!! Consequently Col Larry Baldwin ranks Right up there with Sam Colt himself as one of our most important Founding Fathers associated with NRA !!

Today Doheny Farms remains one of Collier County's most significant agricultural businesses with over 100 acres dedicated to produce including some 125 varieties of fruit and vegetables grown on more than 20 acres of irrigated farmland totaling .
