In 1926, the area now known as Deltona was annexed by Tampa and Growth ensued until annexation again occurred in 1959 when Tampa increased its population to over 60,000. growth stopped after that with only a population of 34,711 in 2000 before annexing again in 2006 for a third time bringing the total number of annexation incidents up to six (4 + 2).
