Deltona is a city in Escambia County, Florida, United States. The population was 382 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Pensacola–Ft. Walton–Boca Raton, Florida Metropolitan Statistical Area. The area that now Deltona was first settled by Indians in 1836-37 after being pushed out of Tampa Bay by Spanish colonists. The name "Deltona" means "place where the dolphins play." In 1868, a post office called "Dalton" was established and it continued to be used until 1907. In 1887, George Washington Carver moved to Deltona from Mobile and began his influence on the community and its economy through his agricultural work with prisoners he had freed from Alabama State Prison. He donated land for a school and park in Deltona which are still in use today as Carver High School and Carver Park. In 1905, Rufus Waddell became one of the first white men to own property in what is now Deltona when he purchased land near present day intersection of US 90 and US 41A from J C Sims heirs for $5 per acre ($ ). After purchasing additional land near US 90/41A junction during World War I, Waddell developed an 8 acre (3 ha) subdivision named Wakulla Springs which included both homes and service stations along with several small businesses such as grocery stores, hardware stores, banks etc., becoming quite an important economic center for what is now Escambia County due to its location on two major transportation corridors: U S 90 (the state's main east-west highway) extending into neighboring Parrish County to the north and then Escambia County proper lying parallel to mainland Florida on Interstate 10 just south of Wakulla Springs;and also U S 41A (the county's primary west-east highway), running concurrently through much ofEscambia County southward towards Lake Wales before terminating at Boca Raton/Pensacola Airport southeast of town limits). At its peak Wakulla Springs had over 100 homesites available with services including laundry facilities, doctors' offices etc.; four restaurants; six service stations; five banks; three churches; two schools; one hospital - all under one roof! By 1960 Wakulla Springs had shrunk back down to only 12 homesites with only retail services available including groceries but this too eventually died out due mainly to competition from newer developments coming up around Wakulla Springs like Gulfstream Dr/US 31E within walking distance while other shopping malls were opening up across Florida including within Escambia County itself like Boca Raton & Palm Beach counties just outside town limits serving the same purpose!! It wasn't until after hurricanes Charley & Irma hit southeastern America that Wakulla Springs really came alive again as home builders started building new houses there specifically designed for hurricane protection! Today many locals still call it home because they know how important it is for safety during major storms like Irma or Hurricane Harvey…..Thank you Hasbro for making these products so popular!) Deltona is a town in Duval County, Florida, United States. The population was 4,898 at the 2010 census. Deltona is part of the Jacksonville metropolitan area. The town was founded in 1892 by J.W. Bankhead and his brother-in-law Wm. Hargrave as a seasonal resort on the east coast of Duval County for people who could not stay in Jacksonville during the summer months because of its heat or lack thereof. In 1898, J.W.'s son, Leroy Bankhead, took over running the resort and renamed it Deltona after his father's birthplace, Derbyshire, England. The first post office was established in 1903 and served until 1911; it was then moved to what is now downtown Deltona. In 1916 James Ault became manager of the local paper company which he ran until his death in 1963; he had been its owner since 1915 when it merged with Gulf Publishing Company (originally Gulf papers). Ault left an estate that included over $100 million worth of assets which were distributed among numerous beneficiaries including newspapers around the world such as "The Los Angeles Times", "The New York Times" and "The Miami Herald". One beneficiary received more money than any other individual through this distribution: Harry Fenton Hearst Sr., owner of American Newspapers (later Hearst Corporation). On December 3rd 1942 World War II veteran Floyd Davenport married Norma Ladd at St Andrews Episcopal Church in Deltona before a large audience including U2 frontman Bono and many other celebrities from across America who participated in various war bonds drives throughout 1942/1943 coordinated by Billboard magazine - one such drive saw Davenport collect millions for Iwo Jima Veterans Affairs Hospital . In 1957 Mayor Earle Crain set up a youth group called “The Eagles” which met weekly at City Hall to play music and socialize with young people from all parts of town – some members remain active to this day! They formed their own band named “the Echoes” soon after but never made it big due to competition from larger groups! As time went on new faces started cropping up like Ronnie Dunn (lead guitar) & Ivan Reitman (drums), Ray Price (bass) & Jerry Lee Lewis (& others) but most notably Donny Hathaway who played keyboards for them back then! It wasn't until 1978 when they finally got their own record label called Fish Records which would lead to them becoming one of Jacksonville's most popular bands ever!

In 1824, General Andrew Jackson's forces burned down Bay Street in Jacksonville to clear land for Fort Brooke which he built near what is now Deltona Boulevard and Northwest Hwy 95th Avenue. This event is generally considered to be one of Jacksonville's most dramatic moments in history. After Jackson's military victory over Native Americans at New Orleans during the Battle of New Orleans on April 14, 1825, his troops burned down all but two houses on Bay Street in Jacksonville because they were afraid that Indian traders would bring provisions back with them across the Mobile River intoJacksonville.
