His son Walter Wertheimer took over management of the company and built many new plants including one for making Tootsie Rolls (now since demolished). The town slowly began to grow due to demand for its products from local farmers and businessmen as well as visitors who would come by train or boat to explore what they called "The Lake". In 1957, Hurricane Flossie hit Duval County killing 12 people and causing extensive damage; however, no significant injuries were reported in Deltona specifically because most residents had evacuated ahead of time. The following year saw another devastating storm when Hurricane Gilbert struck the state; however, few injuries were reported because people had taken shelter inside their homes or within fortified protective structures such as levees or dams which held back water caused by Gilbert. As time passed Deltona grew more established despite continual challenges posed by hurricanes and other natural disasters such as wildfires that have struck the city multiple times throughout its history including during this latest outbreak which has destroyed dozens of homes and damaged thousands of dollars worth of property Damage estimates are still being compiled but so far estimate around $60 million dollars have been suffered

The town was named after Deltona Beach on Daytona Beach, Florida. The area that now Deltona was settled by Europeans in the late 17th century as part of what is now Miami-Dade County. saltpeter production supplemented agriculture and local fishing until the early 20th century when oil came to be major factor in development as well as industry around this region. A post office called Deltona was established in 1872, and remained in operation until 1959. In 1912, a group of businessmen led by Waddell Dennison developed land north of present day Deltona Boulevard between Northeast 8th Street and Northwest 15th Street for $25 per acre (2/3 share). This became known as "The Dennisons'. In 1928 they erected a two-story red brick clubhouse with an attached garage on what would become Park Drive. They also began organizing raceshorse breeding operations which continued until 1978 when all racing activities were discontinued due to government regulations regarding race gambling (it had been legal since 1907). A year later they brought over their first automobile from nearby Fort Lauderdale to demonstrate its feasibility for travel withinDuval County; it proved too large and impractical to operate so the car sat idle for many years before being donated to the Museum of American History in New York City where it currently resides museum piece status At one time much of what is now Deltona Boulevard consisted of swampy areas which were used for corn farming dating back to preColumbian times according to some sources while other reports claim that these lands may have been purchased by Cuban refugees during American Revolution who had fled Cuba because of Spanish rule; however there's no definitive evidence either way given that no deeds or records exist documenting such purchases. Whatever happened with these lands prior to 1912 remains unknown but whatever form they took appears today on what are now Old Dixie Highway (or more specifically I-10) just south of Interstate 95 exit 7A off US Hwy 11 near mile marker 199

Deltona was founded by the brothers Moses and David Dudley in 1837. The town was named after the Deltona River, which in turn was named for a grant from King George III. The first post office opened in 1838. In 1841, the first courthouse and jail were built. By 1870, Deltona had a population of 350 citizens. In 1881, the state capitol was moved to Jacksonville and Deltona became part of that city's Third District. In 1907, the United States Postal Service erected a postage stamp depicting a view of the town taken from atop Frenchman's Hill Park. In 1916, during World War I, many businesses closed because they were unable to produce food while war was going on; however, most of these reopened after the armistice came into effect. Many residents Came out to Vote in November 1918 during Florida's gubernatorial election as Floridians turned out in record numbers to make their voice heard statewide (it is estimated that over 60% of all voters in Florida participated). During World War II much of what is now Deltona took shape as F-8B Flying Fortresses flew strategic bombing missions over Europe providing critical air support for Allied troops fighting against Nazi Germany; however it ceased operations at about cessation of hostilities on 8 May 1945 when Allied forces liberated concentration camps near Frankfurt am Main Germany
