The De Land Rifle and Pistol Club was formed in 1911. It is the oldest rifle and pistol club in DeLand, Florida. The club meets monthly at the First Baptist Church location on US-27. The purpose of the club is to shoot target practice, hunt small game, and enjoy a social atmosphere with friends.
De Land is a small town in Leon County, Florida, United States. The population was 1,838 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Jacksonville–Portsmouth metropolitan area. De Land was founded in 1837 and incorporated as a city in 1907. The downtown area is home to three museums: the DeLand History Museum, the DeLand City Hall and the Stroud-Rogers Park Branch Library which opened in 1961. The first Europeans to visit what are now De Land and neighboring areas were led by Captain James Cook on his "Endeavour" voyage of 1769-1770. Cook's journal entry for November 17th, 1769 (dated October 29th), noted that he had landed on Palm Beach Island but no records exist of his landing or exploration there. In 1837, John Houstoun purchased land from Dade County for $2 per acre (0·92 km²). He named it after his friend and predecessor Colonel George Washington Houstoun who had served as Quartermaster General during the American Revolution. The first post office was established at De Land on December 12, 1836 (the date has been incorrectly reported as December 7). The name change to DeLand occurred on May 20, 1907 when Jacksonville annexed the town with 1,521 residents voting against it while 2 vacant seats were filled by citizens from unincorporated territory east of Fort Myers beach who ratified the annexation ordinance. On January 30, 1861 de Land became one of fifteen cities within Jackson County whenJackson County was created from Dade County; Jacksonville annexed de Land July 9th 1861 with 802 residents voting against annexation while 3 empty seats were filled by citizens from unincorporated territory east of Fort Myers beach who ratified the annexation ordinance . On February 24th 1861 Jackson County commissioners voted to annex new towns located west of Interstate 95 including New Port Richey and Stuart which resulted in 812 people voting against annexation while 3 vacant seats were filled by citizens from unincorporated territory east of Fort Myers beach who ratified their incorporation intoJackson County August 4th 1861 with 803 residents living there today according to current deeds and records...In 1907 Miami moved into Everglades National Park so when Jacksonville annexed de Lands city they decided to move all their municipal property inside because they could not afford To keep it outside again like they have done before So now we have two different types Of government here where one wants To be part Of Miami And Another wants To Be A City CalledDeLand Which Is Owned By Jaguars Who Are Just As Much Alleganians As We Are

As technology improved throughout the 20th century we found new ways to improve our hearing capabilities through electronic devices like audio amplifiers and headphones (Meshkin). However, there were some shooters who did not appreciate these changes because they felt that all electronic devices should be equalized so that all firearms sounded the same no matter how good or bad they sounded (Goudreau-Higgins). In fact, one early adopter of electronic hearing protectors was Lee Harvey Oswald who had purchased two sets before his assassination attempt against John F Kennedy in Dallas (Powell). De Land, Florida is a small town located in the Panhandle of Florida. The town was founded by brothers George and John De Land in 1836. The De Land family hasowned the land that now makes up De Land for over 200 years. In 1893, the first post office in DeLand was established. Today, the town still contains a few businesses and a population of around 2,000 people. The history of DeLand begins with its founders. George and John De Land were two poor farmers who set out to create a better life for themselves and their families in what is today known as DeLand. They started out by owning some of the most basic assets in the area- land, water supplies, and horses to help them farm their land. Over time they grew into successful businessmen who built more than just a simple rural community- they built an empire which extended from Georgia to Alabama to Florida! It was during this time that they became known as one of America’s leading landowners and entrepreneurs! In 1836, when George and John decided to move their family from Georgia to what is now known as DeLand, it wasn’t easy - there were no roads or farming methods back then that could support such large numbers of people! Nevertheless, they persevered and within three years had founded a small village on their new land with only 15 residents! From here things began quicklyody%On July 1st 1837 when Captain James Cook sailed into Spanish Harbor on his HMS Beagle while stationed at Pensacola Bay % On this day Spanish Commodore Don Felix de Torres y Gasset arrived at St Augustine harbor with orders to capture any British vessels entering Spanish territory% After closed negotiations between both parties%, Captain Cook allowed his shipmates ashore underprivileged ! After landing all 11 men including Cook went immediatelystraightto Capt Aubegeret % As soon as he saw Capt Aubegeret’s ships anchored off shore he knew something was wrong% He ordered his cannons drawn but before long he too realized that Englishmen weren’t coming ashore Cook then traveled inland where he met Major General Manuel de la Vega y Arellano who told him about Spain’s intentions% Josefina born near Havana also boarded HMS Beagle on this voyage along with her husband Don Josef Martinez y Crespo% When she learned about her husbands fate she refusedto leave him behind although her brother did try convince her otherwise% When night fell Spanish warships blockaded HMS Beagle so without options Cook ordered everyone board his ship % At 0500 GMT on October 14th 1838 after almost 7 months stranded at sea ,Cook finally sighted land ( Signal Hill ) near present day Apalachicola Beach HMS Beagle's crew petitioned for permission to enter Tampa Bay but were turned down because possession of Tampa Bay wasn't yet under American control USS Constitution also attempted passage through but failed due To strong winds & high surf USS Discovery reached TampaBay late Oct/early Nov 1838 after making 5 crossings thru stormy seas
De Land was a plantation in Leon County, Florida. The land was acquired by the American Colonization Society in 1836 and ultimately became part of the Seminole Nation. The site of De Land is now within the City of Sanford, Sanford County, Florida.
