The original boundaries were based on that of what is now Garden City; however, due to growth within the town limits over time much of Garden City became annexed into De Land while parts of South Plantation and Jupiter became part of Boynton Beach The current name comes from two tracts which were donated to DeLand by General Randolph Boggs during World War II: "Tract No 1" (now McGregor Road) near Fort Myers Municipal Airport serving as training area for American soldiers fighting overseas while "Tract No 2" (later known as Ponce Boulevard) ran north-south through downtown serving as a shopping center until it was rerouted eastward along Business Street following Hurricane Irma's passage through de Land on September 6th 2018 .
