DeLand is a town in Polk County, Florida, United States. The population was 9,711 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Orlando–Kissimmee–St Petersburg Metropolitan Statistical Area. To address this issue, Mayor Rick DiNapoli spearheaded a plan to redevelop old industrial areas into mixed-use neighborhoods called Gateway Communities; these neighborhoods are home to restaurants and small businesses near heavy-traffic highways like Interstate 495 and State Road 55A/Lakeland Boulevard. As Gateway Communities progress through planning stages and interactions with governments throughout Polk County – including City Manager Don Byers – they will become increasingly diverse in terms of income levels and racial composition while still remaining core DeLands values such as community spirit and diversity.

De Land was a small town in Miami-Dade County, Florida, United States. The town was established in 1892 by J.M. DeLand and his wife Sarah Stephenson DeLand as part of the annexation of Homestead to Dade County. The population of De Land was 2,000 at its peak in the early 1930s. In 1933, it merged with neighbouring Plantation to form Dade City. The merger led to the abolition of Village status for De Land, which had been granted to it by the county commissioners in 1912 as part of an effort to promote economic development within the rural area around Homestead AFB.[1] The town's history can be traced back to 1892 when J.M. and Sarah DeLand founded De Land after purchasing 1,000 acres (400 ha) of land east of Miami on Biscayne Bayou from Major General David Dixon[2]. The couple soon became involved in local politics and served as leaders on various committees including those responsible for developing Homestead AFB and marketing the airport property; they also helped found Plantation Dairy,[3] a commercial dairy farm located adjacent to present-day Dadeland Stadium near downtown Miami Beach. In 1933, when Plantation merged with Dade City, all three municipalities had about 3,500 residents combined - roughly one-third of which lived within what is now Dade City limits – making it one ofMiami's largest towns despite its smaller size compared to neighboring cities such as Miami Beach or Coral Gables[4]. The city experienced rapid growth during World War II due in part to military spending by nearby Fort Lauderdale and other areas; however, war casualties led to a decrease in population throughout most of 1945[5]: only about 400 residents remained by the time V-E Day arrived on September 2 that year[6]. Population growth resumed shortly thereafter but slowed during the postwar period as families moved away from rural areas towards more urban surroundings: de Land's population peaked at 6,100 people in 1960 but fell below 4,000 by 1970[7]; however it has since regained some levels relative to other nearby communities while continuing its slow growth rate over recent decades [8]: today de Land has approximately 3200 residents.[9]
