The company made holsters for both men and women. They started out making holsters for pistols and revolvers. In 1916, they produced their own gun safe holster and it became an industry standard. Two years later, the Hook and Ladder company merged with another Holster Company to form the "Omni-Shield" company. This company made handguns and revolvers as well as holsters for rifles. They also produced a pistol safe that became very popular among law enforcement officers. In 1930, Omni-Shield merged with another Holster Company to become the "DeLand Holster Company." The DeLand Holster Company continued to make handguns until 1970 when they transitioned to producing military gear only.
De Land, Florida is a town in Seminole County, Florida, United States. The population was 7,711 at the 2000 census. It is part of the Orlando Metropolitan Statistical Area. It is named after De Land, Kentucky. In 1836 Captain John H. DeLand founded what would become De Land on the east side of the Citrus River in Seminole County. He and his family were pioneers and opened up country that now houses cities such as Jacksonville and Orlando. In 1868 Lieutenant Colonel James Kapp founded Winter Park on land that he acquired from DeLand for $5,000 (). Colonel Kapp had been with General Scott when he led American forces against Mexican forces at Buena Vista Creek in1846 (). The first post office was established in De Land on April 14th, 1869 (). The name changed to Sanford on May 1st of that year (). On November 3rd of 1870 the town became a county seat with Aiken becoming its second county seat (after Daytona). On January 6th 1889 de land was granted to Anna Goodloe by Governor Coker (), who also gave her 320 acres () northwest of Sanford which she donated to society for education purposes (). Anna Goodloe's heirs continue to operate Goodloe Academy located there today. Anna Goodloe House still stands today as one of the most beautiful examples of Craftsman Bungalow architecture in America. Another significant building from this time period is Mrs Coolidge's School which stood near present day Davenport Road and State Road 408 until it burned down in 1924%. On February 10th 1912 Fenton McMillin organized an agricultural fairgrounds north of Sanford which became known as "McMillin Park" (). This event marked the beginning of what would be known as McMillin Boulevard which runs through downtown Sanford today (originally called "McMillin Drive"). From this point forward Sanford began developing into an important commercial center due to its location within easy access to Interstate 95 and other major highways
