Gun lubrication has a long and varied history in De Land, Florida. The earliest reference to gun lubrication is from 1855, when a landowner in the town of Stonington established a store that sold horse oil and other lubricants. In 1907, an ordinance was passed regulating the sale of firearms. This law led to the development of a local arms trade and Gun Lube Shop as one of the first businesses in De Land. The Gun Lube Shop was founded by John Sorenson on November 17, 1907. It was located at 301 E Main Street in DeLand. At its peak business, the shop had twelve employees and served as a source for ammunition, guns, bolts, rifles and shotguns. The shop continued to operate until 1978. In 1978, John Sorenson’s son-in-law Sammie Sorenson took over management of the Gun Lube Shop after his father’s death. From 1978-1983,Sammie ran the shop with assistance from his wife Brenda (née Kapp). During this time period, they also operated two adjacent stores called “The Pistol Place” and “The Rifle Place” at 411 W Main Street in DeLand which were both closed due to lack of patronage during their respective times periods. This left only The Gun Lube Shop remaining active as an armory supply store before it closed on December 6th., 1984 due to budget cuts by then Mayor Tom Dooley. On January 2nd., 1985 Mayor Dooley announced plans for redevelopment that would include new housing and commercial buildings near downtown DeLand along I-4 motorway which would result in increased traffic congestion around The Gun Lube Shop; this caused its closing once again effective February 1st., 1985 making it one of the last locally owned businesses to close withinDe Land history! Although not functioning as an armory store anymore following its closure in 1984, The Gun Lube Shop still remains open as a museum today!

De Land is a small town in Seminole County, Florida, United States. The population was 3,569 at the 2010 census. It lies on U.S. Highway 95 just west of Tallahassee and east of Sanford. The town was named for DeLand Plantation, which had been founded by a group of Englishmen in 1835. The first white people to live in De Land were part of the original settler party that journeyed from Georgia in 1837 to purchase land in what is now Seminole County. Captain George Stoneman and his men explored the area around where De Land now stands on November 3, 1837 while they were on their way back from a trading expedition through central Florida. They named their new settlement after General John C. Breckinridge's headquarters at Fort Moultrie on Savannah River, Georgia – De Land being British for "Hill Top". In 1840 General James Wilkinson established Fort Wilkinson here with three hundred soldiers to protect travelers traveling along the Alabama Trail between Mobile and Pensacola (now Bay City). After Wilkinson's death in 1845 the fort was abandoned and it never again saw military use; it has been used as an agricultural farm since then. In 1846 two brothers by the name of Frazier bought land northeast of present-day DeLand from some Creek settlers who had fled violence there during nearby Indian Wars II (1836-38). They developed their holdings into what is now known as Frazier Farms; one acre sold for $1 per pound sterling at market prices (equivalent to $62 million today). The Frasers also began developing a mill around this time which would produce flour for local consumption and export until it closed its doors in 1902 due to economic difficulties caused by prohibitionism and other factors outside its control. In 1865 Colonel Thomas Jarratt erected astride State Road 9 near present day Sanford a large post office called "Frazierville" serving both Fayetteville Naval Station located 15 miles away downriver at Pensacola Beach) as well as surrounding farmssteads including those within today’s community of Live Oak Park off US 95 just east of town limits On May 1st 1893 about 350 farmers who had gathered together near Live Oak Park petitioned Congress for passage of the National Agricultural depression relief bill having suffered losses during 1893-1894 major droughts which affected most parts of America . On July 2nd 1893 President Grover Cleveland signed into law without explanation “An act to provide for Relief under unusual Circumstances Connected Therewith’” This act provided financial assistance up until 1907 when all national banks were closed because of regulation made by New York City bankers afraid that southern cottonseed production might be stimulated if such assistance existed elsewhereabouts! In 1946 Dr Virgil Goode became Distinguished Professor Emeritus at Florida A&M University College Of Agriculture And Food Science researching rural development issues throughout Central America starting with Tehuantepec Province Mexico! From 1948 until his death he was also Chairman & Managing Director Of Goode Bros., Incorporated Fruit Growers Syndicate! During good years like these there are many events & picnics taking place throughout our community always keeping things lively!

De Land is a town in Polk County, Florida, United States. The population was 2,928 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Jacksonville metropolitan area. The first person to settled in De Land was Captain John Ladd who arrived with his family in 1836. He built a cabin on what is now Fourth Street and named it Ladd's Landing after himself and other early settlers in the area. In 1837, Captain John Ladd's son-in-law James Cook organized a group of nine men and two women to build Fort George Wright on Indian Creek near present day DeLand. This was the first permanent settlement in De Land and served as a trading post for many years before becoming an actual military fortification during American victories against Seminoles and British forces during the Seminole Wars (1835-1848). Fort Wright became known as "the Gibraltar of Florida". In 1849, Captain John Ladd's grandson Isaac Griggs bought land at Third Street south of present day First Street in what would become downtown De Land. Griggs started building what would become known as The Old Courthouse which still stands today on Third Street just south of Flagler Avenue. He also founded The Griggs Store which burned down shortly after opening but left a lasting legacy by providing local merchants with goods they could not find anywhere else In 1850, Isaac Griggs moved his store west across Flagler Avenue to what is now Second Street North before moving again around 1865 to original site north of First Street where he erected another small shop that still stands today - this time called The Storefront Hotel (now occupied by Marriott). In 1852, James Cooks granddaughters Clara Cooks organized a group of seven women and one man to purchase 1 acre (0.40 hectare) east of Present DayThirdStreetnorthofFirstStreet from Colonel Edwin Hardee for $100 ($4 per acre). These new settlers called themselves The Ladies Colony because they were not allowed to wear pants or hats indoors so they became known as "women without trousers". They began construction on their own brick house which still stands today next door to The Lady's Storefront Hotel - this house later became known as Mrs. Cooks' House (now occupied by Amtrak). The Ladies Colony continued living there until about 1870 when most moved away due to everyday practical difficulties such as lack of space and fear that white people might take over their land if they remained living there openly like the ladies had done before them. Some residents did stay behind however including Mrs Gaston Henningsen who married Elisha Bogue who had previously been active with the Ladies Colony; they soon acquired additional property east of ThirdStreetnorthofFirst Streets where they built homes that remain extant today including Mrs Henningsen's House Museum which houses artifacts related to her life experiences while living in DeLand from circa 1880 through 1930; Mr Bogue's House also remains extant; it has been designated a National Historic Site jointly administered by both USGS/NPSARA & DEAND since 1979 . A few scattered examples exist throughout much older populated areas all across northwest Florida featuring slave Owned Homes Intermingling With White Population: In Stonington Plantation off US 41 near Daytona Beach/Ormond Beach – This plantation complex includes three massive slave run homes dating back at least 1778: Ocala Female Slave quarters #1&2 located adjacent thereto on 3 acres bordered by Sanford Road NE & Orange Blossom Trail W ; Mable Aiken Plantation off US 41 close To Daytona Beach – This plantation complex includes five massive slave run homes dating back at least 1800: Elizabeth Shipley’s Mansion located immediately prior thereto along Sanford Road NE ; Rachel Gentry’s Mansion located immediately prior thereto along Orange Blossom Trail W ; Anna Porterfield’s Mansion located immediately prior thereto along Orange Blossom Trail NW ; Sally Hemphill’s Mansion located immediately adjacent thereto along Sanford Road NW . All five properties are currently preserved withinGateHouseNational Historical Park boundaries . There were likely others associated with these plantations but details are unknown due our lack thereof+
The De Land area of Florida was first settled by the Seminoles in the 18th century. The United States acquired it from Spain in 1821, and soon began to develop it as a landowning aristocracy. After the American Civil War, most of the aristocrats fled to North Carolina or West Virginia, but some left their estates behind and started businesses in DeLand. The town grew rapidly in the late 19th century and reached its peak during World War II when more than 7,000 people lived there. However, after the war, business values shifted away from agriculture and towards manufacturing and services. Today, DeLand is a small town with few major cultural attractions.
