De Land is a town in Escambia County, Florida, United States. The population was 7,058 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Pensacola–Flt.Ldr., Alabama Metropolitan Statistical Area. De Land is on Flamingo Road, approximately 15 miles east of Pensacola and 25 miles west of Tallahassee. De Land was first settled by African Americans during the early 1800s as a cotton plantation town known as "Ebenezer". Ebenezer was abandoned in 1827 after owner Isaac Brown refused to sell slaves to local white farmers due to color prejudice. In 1835, two Seminole brothers named John and James Fenton acquired 640 acres (250 hectares) of land along with five other men from Jacksonville for $5 per acre ($ in ) when they emigrated from Cuba. They called their new community "Fenton's Landing" after their father-in-law, Christopher Fenton (1796-1847), who had served as a captain in the U.S. Army under General Andrew Jackson during the Mexican War and also owned land in Mobile Bayou region near Pensacola where he had plantations dating back to 1793. In 1840, a group of seven men led by Captain Edward Hickey purchased 350 acres (150 hectares) northeast of Ebenezer for $10 per acre ($1/km²). Hickey developed what became known as DeLand into an agricultural center with small fields that were rented out for farming or used for grazing animals such as hogs and sheep; there was no water available until 1859 when deeded springs were discovered on the property northwest of town limits; this opened up many new opportunities for agriculture in what would become DeLand including raising citrus fruit, growing cotton, soybeans, peanuts, potatoes and corn; until 1941 only cattle were raised on most farms hereabouts; however over time much livestock production has shifted towards pork production which now accounts for 80% or more of total crop production hereabouts The original courthouse building located at 401 US Highway 85 N still stands today within city limits limitations; it served as both court house/police station and jail between 1836-1941 while also containing some offices related to government relations including those responsible for post office service excepting DeLand which received its own mail service beginning October 1st 1870 via horse drawn wagons running down Gulf Street through downtown Pensacola before terminating at First National Bank Building across Church Street just southwest of current day City Limits limit

De Land is a town in Panhandle County, Florida, United States. The population was 9,827 at the 2010 census. It was founded in 1892 by John De Land and his wife Emma Green as a small community on the Key Largo Keys. In 1902, De Land became part of Jacksonville, Florida. The first settlers were Englishmen who arrived on the island of Key Largo in 1892. They built a log cabin and named their new community "DeLand." By 1902, the population of DeLand had increased to about 100 people. A post office was established in 1903 and remained in operation until 1959. In 1907, Jacksonville annexed De Land and many of its residents moved to Jacksonville. The annexation made De Land one of Jacksonville's most populous towns. On January 1, 1912, Hurricane Flora struck the panhandle area with winds over 130 mph (195 km/h). Many homes were destroyed or damaged and many people lost their lives – including John De Land and his wife Emma Green who survived the hurricane unscathed. After Flora passed away, many citizens decided to move back to Deland which they did in large numbers between 1912-1914 due to improved transportation options available after World War I ended hostilities across Europe that year.
