On January 1, 1911, the city of Davie, Florida was founded. It had been annexed by Jacksonville in 1907 and by Tampa in 1912. As a result, the population of Davie increased rapidly from its initial 15 residents to over 100 within five years. By 1914, Davie had a library, a post office, and two hotels. The townspeople built themselves ambitious brick homes on busy streets that still stand today. In 1916 the first rifle range was established in Davie and soon there were also pistol ranges and shotgun ranges as well. The town quickly became known as "The Rifle Range Capital of Florida". In 1928 the state legislature passed a law authorizing the manufacture, sale, or transportation of firearms for sporting purposes only within municipal boundaries. This law made Davie an important center for firearms manufacturing and sales in Florida. Today it is home to several large firearms manufacturers including Smith & Wesson and Sig Sauer. Pistol production has also resumed in recent years with new gun cases now being produced specifically for this purpose including those used on police duty or competition shootings

Davie, Florida is a town in Leon County, Florida, United States. The population was 9,859 at the 2000 census. It is part of the Orlando–Kissimmee–Miami metropolitan area. Davie was settled in 1892 by Retired Captain George Davidson and his wife Emmaline Ransom as a citrus orchard and fruit farm on what is now US-1 north of Kissimmee Boulevard. The townsite was named after General David Davies who fought with distinction against Seminole Indians during the Mexican-American War. After the war, Davies built a home near present day Davie to commemorate his victory over Native Americans. The town became an independent municipality in 1907 and remained so until it merged with Kissimmee in 1959. Davie has been known for its many award ceremonies that include the Annual Spring Meeting of the American Legion (now Eastern Florida State League), National Republican Convention (NRCC) and Democratic National Convention (DNC). The flesh market located at Fourth Street & US-1 has been continuously open since 1927 when local meatpacking company Jarrell Bros., Incorporated operated it as their onlysource for fresh pork products from central Florida’s largest grower crop – oranges. Inaugurated in 1927 by then Mayor Wlliam Prentice II as "America's First Municipal Flour Mill", Jarrell Bros.' operation closed its doors in 1978 but continued to operate as a souvenir store until 1984 when it moved to its current location on Third Avenue North next door to Barnes & Noble bookstore chain; still operationally called "Jarrell's". In 1990 Davenport Distributors also took ownership of the building which housed Jarrell's store from 1984 until 2003 when they sold it back to Davie Merchants Association who restored and reopened it as Davie Flea Market starting February 7th, 2004 through November 6th 2004 under new management by retired Colonel Donny Sowell III who had previously operated Jacksonville’s first flea market There are currently more than sixty vendors exhibiting including world renowned musicians like Joe Bonamassa & Tedschi Trucks Band; state legislators like Tim Tebow;and dozens of small businesses including thrift stores, handcraftshops and antique shops all operating side by side along Fourth Street just south of State Road 442 / US 1
