Davie, Florida is a city in Miami-Dade County, Florida, United States. The population was 22,711 at the 2010 census. Davie was founded in 1892 by J.M. Davison and named after Lieutenant General John A. Davison of the Confederate Army during the American Civil War. It began as a small farming community with a few families and only two stores on Cedar Key Road before reaching its current size in 1912 when it annexed part of Miami Beach. On December 12th, 1917, President Woodrow Wilson declared martial law in Florida due to riots that had occurred throughout the state following World War I veteran bonuses being given out without proper verification of their claims. This caused many Caviteño veterans to move into Davie from Miami Beach and other parts of South Florida to take advantage of the opportunities available there while also seeking political support for ignored problems in their home area such as native land theft and various housing projects built without Community Development Financial Institutions (CDFI) assistance which were then used by developers to build high-rise apartments or other commercial properties devoid of any community involvement whatsoever until they were razed over time or left empty because no one wanted to live there! In 1922, Mayor Manuel Diaz appointed James Worthy as head of civic services after he recommended him for the position based on his years of experience operating City Hall in nearby Boca Raton; Diaz felt Worthy would be more capable than previous incumbent William Roper who had been mayor since 1915 when town boundaries were expanded eastward following annexation by Miami Beach which made Davie an official city! In 1933–1934 Mayor Worthy spearheaded construction of what is now known as Downtown Davie Plaza including the first municipally owned electric lights and streetlights in SouthFlorida! The plaza served as a model for later public works projects across SouthFlorida that continue to this day including Fernandez Park located just southwest of Downtown Davie where you can find several restaurants, banks and retailers today thanks to downtown redevelopment efforts initiated by Mayor Worthy’s successors such as Pedro Santiago who took office after Mayor Worthy’s death in 1941 prior to being elected county commissioner!! In 1951 Mayor Denton Fenton created what is now called Northwest Side neighborhoods adjacent to Southwest Side neighborhoods along Eighth Street between Northwest First Avenue and Northwest Second Avenue with specific goals including reducing crime rates within those areas while also providing access for residents along EighthStreet from Ninth Street eastward through Broward Boulevard into Kendall County!!! Municipally funded roadway improvements have continued unabated ever since with NW side streets becomingShoulders Streets while SW side streets become University Drive/National Highway 522 !!! These major roadway improvements have helped makeNWside neighborhoods one stop shopping destination enjoyed by all neighborhood residents regardless their income level !! For example if you are looking for an affordable house or condo development outside your regular neighborhood market these NWside developments may offer something different but always with quality features like indoor plumbing, kitchenettes/apts., elevator service etc!!!!! The latest incarnation announced today call it “Downtown 2020″ which offers new programming designed specifically for young adults 25 Years+ old like job training programs brought together with music venues & coffee shops!, art galleries & theaters plus much more !!
