Davie is a small town in Miami-Dade County, Florida, United States. The population was 9,869 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Miami-Ft. Lauderdale-Brickell Metropolitan Statistical Area. Davie is located on a peninsula which separates Lake Okeechobee from the mainland of South Florida. The town is named for David Levy and his family who came to Tampa in 1845 from Philadelphia. Davia was founded by David Levy in 1845 as a farmstead on what is now US 1 south of US 701 east of Tamiami Trail. In 1865, Davie became an incorporated town and was renamed for General Lafayette Hill Davie after he donated land to the community that included his home and other properties. The original courthouse building burned down in 1924 but replaced with a new one in 1951 that still stands today. In 1955, Davie annexed adjacent unincorporated communities of Starke, Plantation Keyes, Deerfield Beach and Cutler Heights making it one municipality with a total population of over 10,000 people. Today there are several shopping malls and restaurants within walking distance of downtown Davia including: Macy's Department Store (opened 1959), JCPenney (opened 1958), Sears (since 1984), Disneyworld Resort/Openwater World (opened 1993) as well as smaller shopping centers such as Harbour Towne Mall which has been open since 1978 and Eckerd's Pharmacy & Supermarket which opened in 1961

Davie is a city in Lee County, Florida, United States. The population was 10,651 at the 2010 census. Davie was founded by settlers in 1881 and named after David Hill, an early settler. It became a town in 1912 and an incorporated municipality in 1960. The city of Davie is located on the Gulf of Mexico between Miami and Fort Myers. The Zachary Taylor Bridge crosses the river near the city limits. Davie has two airports: one serving general aviation with runways 12/24 and 3/27; and one for commercial service with runway 9/27. There are also several small businesses located within the city limits that provide services such as plumbing, heating & cooling, grocery shopping, EMS services, taxi cabs etc. The history of Davie begins with its namesake David Hill who arrived in 1881 from Ireland with his family following the American Revolution to establish himself along what would become Davie's waterfront area today. At first he built a wharf to store his goods but quickly realized that this location made it difficult for him to grow crops or sell his products because of high waves which destroyed much of his merchandise during hurricanes that would frequent the area at that time. So he decided to move inland where he could build closer to water so that his products could be more easily stored and sold during quieter times when not subject to high waves or damage from storms." -According to historian Lesley Halsey Greggs "Hilltown" had been established by David Hill on Covell Island off Monmouth County beach by 1882 according to documentary evidence found at Broward National Historical Park." David Hill continued growing land around town until 1914 when all but 2 acres still belonging to him were annexed into Fort Myers as part of annexation process for Lee County." -In 1912 Davison City was incorporated under Florida Statute 438 which allowed cities having a population over 7500 residents self govern without waiting for state approval." In 1960 due largely to economic development spearheaded bycommercial interests within downtown area Davison incorporation was reauthorized by state Legislature becoming an unincorporated township once again."
The Davie, Florida area was first settled by the Seminoles in the late 17th century. The area became a part of the United States in 1821, and was named for Admiral James Davie, who fought in the American Revolution. The Flag of Florida is a yellow three-pointed star with blue stripes running along it, representing the state's oceanography and maritime history.
