The town was home to one of the first gun shows in America, and its residents were known for their passionate interest in firearms. The town's history with firearms has been kissed by many bullets – from Founding Father George Washington carrying a rifle into battle at Valley Forge to Remington Arms founder Sam Houston owning more than 400 rifles during his time as governor of Texas. But there's one particular NRA-affiliated community member who will always be remembered for wearing a Firearms T-shirt at an event back in the early 2000s: John McCarthy. McCarthy was a then-mayor of Davie who helped start the Town Gun Club, which eventually became theta (Theta Chi) fraternity Delta Tau Delta Fraternity Sorority Incorporated (TDA). McCarthy went on to serve as president of TDA from 2006 until his death in 2018. He was well-known within the NRA for his support of Second Amendment rights and activism – even being interviewed on Fox News several times prior to his passing. As more people move into the area they are drawn to its close proximity to Miami-Dade County roads and hospitals, its wide range of cultural experiences, abundance of jobs available in local businesses such as food service and retail industries, as well as its easy access to major highways like I-95 or US 1

Davie was founded in 1836 by James Davie and his wife, Susannah. It was the second town in what would become Florida. The town was named after General Andrew Jackson, who had fought in the American Revolution and then served as a U.S. Senator from Tennessee. In 1840, Davie became a capital of Florida because it had been selected by the United States Congress as the state's new capital following the creation of Florida Territory on December 12, 1839. The first government building in Davie was dedicated on November 3, 1840 by Governor John Smith with President James K. Polk presiding over the ceremony. In 1845, Davie became part of Jacksonville County when that county was created from parts of Duval and Flagler counties. In 1895, it merged into Pinellas County and remains an incorporated community today with a total population of approximately 60,000 people. The town experienced growth during its early years due to its location at the crossroads of two major trade routes: The A1A highway running through central Florida linking Tampa and Jacksonville with shipping coming downriver from Alabama and Mississippi; and Spanish Fort being located about 20 miles (32 kilometers) to the east on Stonington Bay only accessible by boat or ship due to its difficult navigation conditions. This led to construction of roads and other infrastructure throughout Davie so that residents could get around without having to leave their homes much more than necessary for most transactions outside their localities
Davie, Florida was founded in 1837 as a small town on the banks of the St. Johns River. In 1861, it became part of Jacksonville, Florida after that city was annexed by Jacksonville. The population of Davie peaked at over 100,000 in the 1930s and 1940s, but has since decreased to around 50,000 today.
