This is a brief article about Davie, Florida. Davie is a small city in Duval County, Florida, United States. The population was 1,844 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Jacksonville metropolitan area. Davie began as a post office on April 20, 1892, and had its first store open in 1894. The town name comes from James Fenton Davie who founded the town along with his brother John Hinton Davie in 1887 after fleeing Indian Territory during the American Civil War. However, this story does not actually have any connection to the current town name. The original town site was located near what is now Egyptian Point on Pinecrest Beach Road and it was only known as "Davy" until 1905 when it changed to "Davie." In 1911, an oil refinery was built by Standard Oil Company in nearby Marathon and made an important contribution to Davie's growth; however, the plant closed down within a few years and most of the buildings were destroyed in a fire that burned in 1946. The present-day downtown district of Davie began developing around this time with many new businesses opening up including restaurants and hotels along with some older businesses that continued to operate until recently such as Sears Roebuck & Co.'s department store which still stands today across from City Hall. In 1951, Hurricane Floyd arrived onshore and caused extensive damage to much of eastern Duval County including Davie; however little loss or damage occurred within the city limits due to pre-existing infrastructure and FEMA support which eventually helped rebuild much ofDuval County following Floyd’s aftermath. In 1962, Duval County purchased 2 miles (3 km) of beachfront property adjacent to present-day Davieshire for $1 million dollars making it one of only two land purchases by county officials during their tenure as managers ofDuval County Development Authority (later known asDuvalCounty Government Services Agency). This purchase provided additional land for development within city limits while also serving as an opportunity for local entrepreneurs to get involved in business ventures outside of downtown Davieshire although there has been no permanent use for this property since its acquisition Kevin Bacon used it for filming scenes for his movie "Goodfellas". Although there has been some limited development taking place on this acreage over recent decades due to lack of available funding or interest from developers - especially given that other parcels closer to Downtown have become more valuable - overall overall efforts towards developing downtown have generally been positive given its potential significance both historically and currently due largely to its location close TO DUVAL COUNTY'S MOST POPULATED CITY AND DOWNTOWN DISTRICT!

In 1836 Johnston donated land at what is now Davie Creek for a courthouse and school district. By 1860, Davie had become one of Florida's most populous communities with an African-American majority (although there were some white residents). The town began developing its downtown area which includes several large brick buildings including the original jail built in 1840. Davie experienced significant growth after World War II when new industries such as shipbuilding arrived in the area and more people moved into the town. However, due to economic recession in 2007-2008, Davie suffered significant setbacks with only 10 percent of its assessed value increasing from 2006 levels to 2007 values according to Florida Statute §2-5-6(a). Since then, many major projects have helped revitalize Davie including new housing developments and renovation of old buildings that have been turned into affordable housing units known as "The Commons."
