This location became known as “Target Ground” because all manner of shot putts and other targets were placed here from then until the late 1800s. One of the first people to use Target Ground for target practice was Lenny Shea, who owned and operated a small grocery store on Third Street at Fourth Avenue. Lenny had several acres of land across from his property which he used for target practice. He would set up his stand near one of his customers’ homes so that people could come and watch him shoot at various targets. Other local citizens soon followed suit and began using Target Ground for their own private target ranges. By 1907, there were five separate Targets in Dania Beach: The Post Office (US-1), The Shea's Grocery Store (Third Street at Fourth Avenue), The Goodyear Tire & Rubber Plant (Old Goodyear Rd.), The Palmer Hotel (Alcohol Rd.), and The National Rifle Association Armory (State Road 1). These organizations shared an understanding that each should provide storage, coverings, benches, or other facilities necessary for practicing shooting techniques without having to worry about damage caused by projectiles discharged from firearms. For years afterwards, these areas served as meeting places for members of these organizations as well as local gun clubs located throughout town.

The towns of Port St. John and Neptune have since merged into Dania Beach, forming one municipality with a population of 2,033 as of the 2010 census. The name "Dania" comes from the Maya word for "pocket." In 1887, developer George W. Dania bought 312 acres (120 ha) in what is now downtown Dania Beach and developed it into a resort community that would become one of America's most popular tourist destinations during the 1920s and 1930s due to its pristine beaches, crystal clear waters, and relaxed lifestyle. During World War II Dania Beach became an important staging point for military supplies shipped by sea from Florida to California; this also led to its nickname “the Venice of the Gulf” because much of coastal Louisiana was under Japanese occupation at that time. In 1984–1985 voters passed a referendum approving annexation by Port StJohn which created one municipality with a population of 2,033 residents as of the 2010 census while retaining vestiges of local government including elections held every other year on behalf of both municipalities combined which continue to be governed by a three-member board composed wholly or partly thereof made up exclusivelyof citizens who are registered in both municipalities combined!

In 1836, Anna Maria Mayfield (1803-1873) founded an agricultural society here known as "The Mayfields". She donated land for a community park that became Dania Beach Park on November 29, 1884. In 1895, Jeptha Grier built a home here and named it Grier House after himself and his older brother Jethro Grier (1792-1864). That year also saw the opening of Dania City Hall which served as both courthouse and town hall until it burned down in 1955. Dania beach began to grow rapidly following World War II when people from all over came to look for new opportunities in this newly developed area close to South Florida's best beaches. The post-war boom brought about new construction along State Road 906 including shopping malls such as Weis Market Place Shopping Center, Sears & Roebuck Department Store and Bob Evans restaraunts; nightlife with bars such as Don Julio's Texas Steakhouse and Ruby Tuesday; mixed use development such as Seminole Hills Estates housing developments completed between 1950s - present day; major reclamation projects like Everglades National Park created through federal funding between 1965 - present day resulting in significant changes to the demographics of this coastal community since its early days including more vacant lotsstatus than occupied homesAspen Lakes apartments are one example of an apartment complex constructed during this time period that has retained its original name/neighborhood despite having been replaced multiple times
Dania Beach was founded in 1923 by the Dania Beach Company. The company developed the town and built a number of businesses, including a hotel, store, and post office. In 1928, the company merged with another business to create the Dania Beach Corporation. This company developed other businesses in the town before selling them off in 1938. The townsite was purchased by developer Harry Bendix in 1942 and renamed Dania Park.
